Amedeo Contax-Leica adapter: first impressions

What impresses me most is that the adapter does not look like a Kiev helical. Usually most of the adapters of this kind are made from Kiev parts, but on these it looks like the focusing mount is a newly machined part.

I'd be interested in a LTM version as well.

I'm debating selling off a few unused lenses and getting an adapter, seeing as how cheap old sonnars are. Even KEH has 50/2 sonnars in EX condition for around $100

I just got an Amedeo Contax-Leica adapter. It opens up many possibilities, and it "saves money" by being able to buy less expensive FSU lenses in Contax mount. It also allows me to use Contax mount CZJ and Zeiss Opton lenses.

Thanks Amedeo.

OK, I finally have a EX+ Leica M4-P I just bought on E-Bay coming in this week and I need Amedeo's adapter to mount a loooong neglected and unused early Contax/Zeiss 21mm 4.5 Biogon w/ viewfinder, I picked up years ago for, ahem, $45.00 CDN!!!

How does one get hold of Amedeo to get his non-focusing adapter? He doesn't seem to have anything on ebay at the moment.

BTW, I want this to be my 2010 new years resolution to carry this kit around everyday for the year and make pics!

PLEASE let me know if you come across another deal like that! :)

DUDE! I was just reading your email from way back, and now this post!!!! HAHAHAHA

Still looking for that elusive 21 biogon huh!?

I have a few $$ collected and figured the poor 21 was has been stareing at me for the last...too many years, like one of those paintings of sad puppy-dogs w/ the sad puppy dog eyes, that I had to do something to clear my conscious and make some art w/ it.

Now if I could find an 8x10 back, that Sinar Norma will stop stareing at me...

:D

STILL looking, but when I have the time I generally don't have the money. When I have the money I don't have the time!!!

Well if that sad little puppy ever needs a loving home just let me know... PLEASE! :)

I'll keep an eye out, I have seen those here... just no Biogons!!!

could someone please PM me amedeo's paypal email address? I'd like to send him payment for an adapter and notice that he doesn't check msg on RFF that regularly... thanks in advance.

I like the fact that having such an adapter allows me to use Sonnar Contax mount lenses on either a LTM body or a Contax mount camera. It's worth the cost.

I am waiting for the adapter from Amedeo...
It would be so nice to have such an adapter that really works ---- from what I
learned here:)

Brian,

I got two Carl Zeiss Sonnar 50 1/2. One could be used on my Contax IIa, the

other one can be used on the M3 which would come soon. I also find deals of

Jupiter 9 from local stores. In addition, Jupiter 3 is on my wishlist. Finally,

there's a used Noctilux at KEH with the price $2,799. I just don't have the

fund for it yet:(

The used 21 1/4.5 Biogon got nice reputation. I am seriously considering

the possibility of adding one to my collection.

I use a Carl Zeiss 50/2, and it is a beautiful lens. I shimmed one for the Nikon S-Mount, and another is left for the Contax. I have used it on the Amedeo Adapter with good results.

The21/4.5 Biogon might need a special adapter that does not allow RF coupling. Send a message to Amedeo and ask.

The J-3 is available in Leica Thread Mount, does not cost much more than the same lens in Contax mount.

Brian, thanks for the information on the Leica mount J-3!

I agree with you that the Sonnar 50/2 is a beautiful lens--- from the test rolls

taking with Contax IIa and those pictures on this forum. As someone said, it

is "the perfect imperfections" that makes it appealing. I just can't let it lying

on the shelf when I take M3 out for a sunny day. That's the main reason I

purchased the adapter from Amedeo.

Amadeo is a friendly guy. I asked him some weeks ago if his wideangle adapter would work with the Biogon and the ZI. This was his answer:
The lens fit in the adapter, the problem is the bodi itself, on the M4 to M1 fit because these bodies do not have a lightmeter than rest space. If you have the ZM body, try to put into it the 21mm lens, if it can pass between the rangefinder cam and the lightmeter you will be able to use it with the adapter.

This figure from his website depicts the problem: http://www.muscelli.net/pictures/wexplainbig.jpg
