In related news, I am selling an Olympus Stylus owned by Jesus.
(I bought it from him at the Pasadena City College flea market).
I picked up a very early photograph of Jesus in Turin Italy a while back.
Sorry, couldn't help my self...

So she leaves her Leica at home but travels with a sack of bones?
This is getting weirder all the time.

I wish it were true and it may very well be true but provenance such as this is so hard to prove.
At that price provenance would have to be 100% concrete.
Like the idea though...fiddly to load? Surely our Amelia would be made of sterner stuff!
If it had solid provenance, the price would be quite a bit higher...
It begs the question why the seller hasn't put in some research instead of quoting a family legend. I would go searching for photographs of Amelia using a Leica, have a look at Leica's sales records, search the family history or more confirmation than a slip of paper with a signature, etc. After all, it might yield hundreds of thousands to do so.

Also begs the question, if Amelia gifted the new Leica camera to the grandparents because she found it too "fiddly" to load, why does the camera look like it's been heavily used? Surely, with the publicity around her disappearance, had the grandparents known they had such a valuable piece of her history, they would never use the camera as a "daily driver".
I'm assuming, like my Irish grandmother, this person's grandparents were wonderful story tellers.
Best,

The big question is whether or not Leica is willing to replace the corroded sensor...

So how does Earhart's camera end up in the hands of a semi-literate? Does he also need a hand moving a Nigerian prince's money out of the country?

When I want things to end up in museums I usually put them on eBay for £50,000 too. I would never contact a museum or two.
I'd rather sell something, pocket the money and let someone else put it in a museum

Which begs the question - how much work is 450.000 $ worth? For me quite a bit

That camera has been heavily used. Maybe she bought it used. But, whatever the circumstances on an object such as this provenance is everything and as he admits he can not provide provenance other than a signed card. At this juncture it is legend not history.

More accurately, the buyer is probably paying 50,000 GBP for a copy of Amelia Earhart's signature and some guy's grandpa's fiddly old camera.

The Kodak Duo 620 is pretty but, in my limited experience, the Kodak Anastigmat lens is a bit of a contrast-free zone. Oddly, I have only ever seen two of these, and when I saw the second I had the first in my pocket with a film in!

Nice camera. The Anastigmat lenses were top of the line and very sharp, it is possible that they were low contrast. That is why Kodak came up with the Ektars, which are really some of the best lenses, even today.

Why would Earhart include a signed card when she gave away a camera she didn't like to a guy who picked up her laundry? I rarely include a signed card when I drop off stuff at the Goodwill.
