I seem to recall someone here asking about options for uncoated lenses recently. I am too lazy to go looking for that thread but I did stumble on this nice set of shots on Flickr taken with an uncoated Summar. To my eye they look pretty nice and speak volumes for why this little lens is still popular. Tell me what you think about the photos and this lens. (On reflection I suppose its pretty rude to ask strangers to comment on another stranger's photos but if these are you shots and you find this thread, please accept that I like them and expect the majority here will too.)

The Summar is a favourite of mine. To my mind it gives a warm, plastic effect to images which I think can be seen in some of those posted in the Flickr thread. The only slight difficulty is getting one that has clear glass and no cleaning marks. I also like the size of it. I find that it is just the right size for my Leica IIIs and IIIa and prefer using it on those to my Summitar, which is not surprising since it was made for those cameras!

I've never tried using a Summar with XP2, but having seen the images posted, I may well give it a go.

The Summar is a favourite of mine too. It has a look all it's own. Mine has a bit of haze and a couple of cleaning marks, but it still takes great pictures! Thanks for the link peterm1, I really liked the pics. Cheers.

Thank you for the link, they're very nice examples of that distinctive Summar look. I'm pretty well stocked with 50's, but it's a very tempting lens. Particularly since they can still be found at a reasonable price.

Thanks for posting, but I wish you guys would stop postings about the 2/50 Summar. In 1964 I virtually gave mine away because I wanted a better Elmar. Every time I see one of these posts I go to EBAY to find one, maybe someday.

I took mine out for a spin not too long ago:
