PowerFilm is in fact a new Reflecta scanner (PF135). This page (link below) gives a quick overview. So far it is only in German, and somewhat limited (no real test) but you can google translate. My experience with Reflecta has not been very good, so you may want to wait for some real tests before you invest this amount of money. This overview (based on specs comparison with older Reflecta models) suggests it’s a very average quality, only good for quick digitalization of large amount of strips without super high quality requirements.

Thank you, that's good info! The English coverage of the PowerFilm doesn't indicate anywhere I could find that it's a Reflecta, or that it seems to use hardware from older scanners. The RPS 10M/ XAs seems to be a much better scanner for the same price, if I'm reading things correctly, and still offers convenience like scanning longer strips.

I have this model:

It can scan the whole roll. It’s a benefit. The resolution is OK. But it has several flaws. First, from time to time there are some banding issues. Then colors are quite far away from what I get from Nikon Coolscan ED V (I basically stopped using it for color). Finally, it cannot deal with the contrast the way Nikon does. And I am not alone with that opinion - it is basically the consensus of many users. I am not sure if that latest scanner is an improvement, but I would wait to see some reviews.

Isn't banding the result of dust on the scanning optics, which would need to be cleaned off?

Well, just read all the stories on the internet

Anyway, in my case the cleaning did not help, but it’s not always that the banding is present or visible. Colors and contrast handling are much more important aspects and I am not happy in those categories.

Sounds like none of these products comes without issues, best idea is probably to run a thorough battery of tests before committing to a particular piece of hardware.
