Hello everyone,

I'm about to purchase a Leica IIIc (Serie 400xxx), in like new condition with body cap, original case and a leica meter in the same condition....now this will be my first leica....how much should I pay for it? thanks in advance!

I'd be thinking $250.00 to $350.00 if it's as good as you describe ... also relevent is how recently it has had a CLA! I have an average one with some bubbling chrome that I paid $160.00 US for a year ago and it could use a CLA! :)

I agree with Keith. Many of these cameras look good but are in bad need of a CLA so you might try to get a money back deal..

Last year I paid $325 for a IIIc with a very clean Summar. The Summar got stolen though. The IIIc now needs a CLA/repair of shutter.

I tend to tinker with my other Oly OM / SP and Yashica Electro's .... anyone try to CLA them at home? ... and how hard is it compare to lets say Yashica electro ..

Are there simple ways to find out whether or not a IIIc needs CLA? I bought one recently and everything seems to be working in order, but I know that it hasn't seen daylight since the Berlin wall fell.

Are there reasons to have it serviced anyway?

My IIIc just feels dry and when you fire the shutter it 'chirps' ... they are a hell of a lot nicer to use after a CLA. :)

I don't think the cosmetic/external condition of a 50 year old camera is any indication whether it could use a CLA. I would count on one just to be sure everything is up to snuff. Make sure the RF patch has not faded to the point where it cannot be seen.

lllf

lllf

just paid US$200 for a lllf from a reputable seller

Described as - viewfinder clear, rangefinders works good and well aligned
Feels smooth and working great, shutter speeds seem OK but one side of shutter curtains looks dry, (I have a llla with the same problems - so I know what to expect)

I have yet to received the camera but the photos look good and I feel that I paid a fair price

there seems to be a "waiting list" for CLAs in the UK so I will have a go myself - slowly, little by little using a couple of links on the internet and a book that I have bought.

These LTM Leicas just feel so nice to hold and use and look to be relatively simple to work on - but as I said - slowly, little by little will be the way I will approach cleaning the camera
