I feel th first picture is the strongest of the two. The lights on the right are slightly blown out. I think a higher f/stop might have helped. But over all I really like the picture. Excellent work on it. The second has to many blown out lights and is a little over exposed, but a strong composition. You have a good eye for composition. The foreground also seems a little soft.
My picture is called Subliminal Message. A message hid in another message. I took this picture at an old shut down factory close to my work. Thanks, Cosmo😉

I like the first one the best. The tree in the second is kind of distracting to me.

Here's one from when I was there in October. This was scanned by a lab, so I'm not sure how much they've tweaked it. It was around 9:00PM.

Here's two of mine that I would like some feedback on.

I like the subject matter/composition of #2 the best, but agree it's a bit light.
#1 is definitely a better exposure.
Here's one of mine (not really a cityscape, but taken in the city at night).

I agree, #1 just does more for me. It looks familiar, have you posted it before somewhere, maybe? The second suffers more from blown highlights, but what night shot doesn't to an extent? 🙂

I like night shots. I prefer the first one, composition and exposure work better than in the second; the tree in the second is a bit distracting also to me.

Thanks for the feedback, all. I'll have to make an effort to experiment with exposure at night. It's dark so much here in the winter, I should have plenty of time for practice 🙂

I have to say after seeing some of the posted pics - I miss Chicago, but I love living in Mpls.

Thanks. It's the arches over the sidewalk in front of the Novotel hotel in Toronto. Taken with a FED 1 and early FED 50/3.5 (a lens that gives an interesting feel to things).

Chicago is one of my favorite places to shoot, I really don't know why, but it is. Whenever I end up there, I'll often end up just sneaking away for a while with a camera. 🙂

For techinque listen to the other guys. For myself, I love the second photograph. It just proves that in photography there is no wrong way to take a photograph.(apart from a well underexposed pic u cant see). The tree gives an eeriness to the city, How the branch looks to just reach out and grab, or better yet the fingers of the branch oozes out this liquid light that is spilling down the bldgs. as the city melts into the river. This is a very interresting pict. and one that tells a mysterious story. You should be proud of it.

XP2, those are fantastic. The first picture is funny in a way, because I know how nasty walking through that slop (wet snow) can be, but the way you captured it, it looks "dreamy" lol. Thanks for the nice comments, BTW.

cosmonaut, I think I saw that one in your gallery. Grafitti, the timeles art of sometimes obscure social commentary 🙂

MikeL, those are great pictures as well. The power line tower on the right is as distinctive as the Eiffel Tower, in my mind - as a child going to baseball games on a bus in the summer, I knew we were close as soon as I saw those towers on either side of the river. They seemed ugly to me then, but time changes things.
