Being right or being smart?

This is certainly change I can believe in. I do believe jumping to another forum wasn't right. We are family over here. Our givaways should stay in house. Joe was right calling Raid on it. One thing I have learned is that when you leave somewhere after a while you usually regret it.

Btw, there are some forums around I have been in great doubt if to join or not. Somehow I didn't join due to some cloud about what impact this may have on RFF.

But only now I learn the real issue. It's ok for anyone to participate in whatever forums he/she wants. However, the golden rule should be: never talk with your mistress about your wife, non-standing how much this urge is at the core of your need for a mistress.:)

Am I right here ?

Cheers,
Ruben

how full of your own self do you have to be to go around and delete past posts while dragging out your own exit in a such a public manner!!

ppl who want to stay, glad to have you here. we will still have lots of fun and learn something new from each other. the "greater than thous" who want to leave, don't let the door hit you too hard on your way out.

Just a minute.

That WAS my thread.
I opened it in the "Members only" forum to share with my friends.
I asked for shipping cost and no more.

Those were all the rules necessary.

My error is in being a socialist.
I forgot about capitalist, consumer greed and avarice and jealousy. Sorry, we don't have that over here.

If you want to "give with rules" open another thread.

i realize this thread grew out of control very quickly, but it might be a good idea to set up guidelines so that no one else can start throwing them into it for you. if they were established sometime later in the thread, most people would have missed them.
it was a great gesture on your part though. i don't always agree with you, but this was a really good idea.

I agree with you Ruben. Maybe I spoke wrong. I went over to Nelsonfoto "that other forum" & Raid made a nice jesture for people to come here to get free gear. Then Raid makes a statement about non members grabbing the goods. Joe called Raid on it. Who cares who get's what as long as they can use it. It is Christmas. I guess there is no right or wrong. Go to Nelsonfoto and read it all yourselves. Merry Christmas.

I will be asking Joe to leave that one locked permanently.

Quite right, Pixtu. Open a different thread.

Suggested rules:
1) specific end date
2) welcome to new members to participate if they contribute something, anything, a post or another freebie
3) we make a christmas present to Stephen (perhaps Joe and Pitxu, too)
4) ???

It sure got out of hand and I hope to see Raid back some day. Taking down threads is overreaction however. There are other people who took their time and effort to post to those threads.

Why don't you just disappear. You got Ned banned, you stalk and harass members. You have never posted anything of value that I have noticed. You even pick at Roger Hicks who's the gentlest of all members and an asset to this forum...

I think you should just take the hint and ban yourself. No one will miss you as it was apparent when you were recently banned.

You're in in my ignore list.

Sorry OP, but I had to post this because Pixtu is a nuisance in this forum and he gets members banned and always creates conflict.

Nh3:

No.

Pitxu is a kind and generous man. And he's a photographer.

He recently sent me a book when I expressed an interest in another photographer's work.

He's certainly upfront, opinionated, but I have never found him at all abusive.

Curiously he is in many ways similar to his near neighbor Roger Hicks in that they are both knowledgeable and they both think they are always right. So when the two meet...

Whatever you guys decide to do, be sure to check it out with CameraQuest first.

There is a classifieds section already fully organised for such "dealing".

Personally I would like to see all this photogaphic flotsam go into a kitty ... get auctioned to members for whatever ... and the money donated to a worthy cause or charity.

Maybe once or twice a year! :)

different rules, organised auction's for charity, throw your gear in dumpsters...whatever.... anyone can do what they like with their own gear. there is nothing inherantly wrong with that....

in this case someone started with the generosity of giving something away and many others were kind and gracious enough to do the same...i dont see any reason to undermine those good peoples generosity -- the people whingeing in the thread, that was otherwise postitive, that contributed to the thread closing is where the focus should lie for improvement if something should be considered

Hear hear.

I don't know where all this bile has come from. One minute this place is a love-in and now it's gone all bitchy.:bang::bang::bang:

Some of the posts in this thread are pretty amazing, someone mentioned 5 year olds, personally I think that's an insult to kids.

I haven't got round to reading the locked thread yet, so who knows what delights await me there.

I bet those folk on the other forum(s) are pissing themselves right now.

I think in the future I'll just throw it all in the dumpster. I'll not get involved in this kind of nonsense again.

I don't blame you, Fred. However what we forget about is the silent majority. There are real people who have modest incomes, who truly benefited from the closet clearing thread. I never thought I would have the chance to play with a 50mm 1.2 lens, and never would have bought a Canon FD - but now I get a chance to use both.

I would like to think that many more people were helped on that thread than hurt - and I believe it is true. The sad part is that the, as with all news, we tend to dwell on the negative rather than the positive.

I am not saying reopen the thread or anything like that, but I am saying that if you are tempted to feel bad and angry because of that thread, think of people like me who were helped, and who found joy in what was done.

BTW - Is your signiture a joke, or did that actually happen when you started weatherbug?

No Joke. That's an actual clip from the Console window on OS X as Weatherbug starts up. Couldn't believe it when I saw it scroll by. Programmers are kinda wierd, huh? I think the best message I've seen, though, was back in the early 1980's. The client was running a TRS Model 16 computer for his business when it crashed big time. When I got to his location, on the screen, in small letters, were the words, "Fatal Error, Core Dumped." Then below it in BIG letters, was "Shut her down, Scotty, she's sucking mud again!"

Those guys writing the operating system for Radio Shack must have been smoking something! :)

well....a wry grin would be closer to the mark, followed by some headshaking and a deep sigh.
i said what i said. i wanted to know more. i found a lot more than i bargained for. does that colour my opinion of this place in a negative manner?...NO.
this is a big forum, and by all accounts , at times a ...passionate place.
whether raid was right or wrong is irrelevant. whether backalley was right or wrong is also irrelevant.
there are problems in having a forum like this. it has some great advantages , but those advantages are also its greatest disadvantages.
as there is no face to face communication and only the written word what we miss out on is the hidden nuances conveyed by the spoken word, gestures, facial expression, tone of voice. what one hand may have been written as a lighthearted comment:D is wrongly interpreted by another reader as criticism. :bang:
this is just an example, of course.
as for me..i had a first impression, and then i applied a litmus test, so to speak, to see whether or not the first impressions were correct. i'm glad they were not.
But i'm keeping an open mind. life is too short an' complicated as it is to waste time on bitchin' and bellyachin' coz someone has said something, and then said something else. not interested: it's a waste of time and energy that could have been better spent in learning something more useful and productive. if people want to carry on the i recall the advice Seamus Ennis once gave: 'Leave him to his glory.(those who know who Seamus Ennis is/was will know exactly what i am.apart from a photographer of mediocre repute, that is)
this will be my only post on this matter.
other that i going to enjoy this forum and see what i can share with as well as learn from others.
