Hey Peter! I am glad you are still banging off rolls in the GF as the last time I heard you wanted to let it go....

Its been a long long while since I last shot anything. Images from my trip to China back in 2017.
This trip was memorable for my GF670, as we were thrown off our horse during the horseback ride up into the mountains of Lanzhou, China.

These images are after the 'throw', where I thought my GF was done for.

This is the very first image of a new roll i added the morning after the fall. Shooting at iSO 100 at 0500hr was not a good choice, but it was the only film available in the freezing mountains.

This was also after the fall, with the expectation that nothing may have been recorded.

This was my last image from the trip, and one of my favourites.

Hi Ben,

I like your shots. The beauty of film - even if imperfect, it has a draw.

The image I posted is from 2015...I have in the end sold my Bessa III. I had a Bessa IIIW also, but let that go as well, to finance other priorities. Big mistake - prices for the wide version are nuts now. Where I live now half or more of the year, I have concerns about the environment, for a lack of proper waste disposal systems.

I am going back and forth between getting the Leica Monochrom (I had one on loan from Leica and was very impressed) or another Bessa III. The issue with the MF Bessas is that for my work I would need both versions. I am done with 135 format in film, except of course my Contax T3.

I will see. In retrospect, the Bessa III and IIIW were two of the really great cameras of the last years.

Hi Peter

The image of Lyngen should be printed and admired. While I think the Monochrom will be nice to have, it is a little expensive for a digital camera that can only shoot in monochrome. I agree that the GF Series is underrated and makes the top 10 cameras in the past years. If you could, it would be great to get one back and continue creating the wonderful landscapes you have from it.

Two from the wide version (Bessa 667W).

I too would have huge regrets if I sold off my GF670 and 670W. Those cameras deliver immense joy and I cannot imagine photography without them. It would be easy for me to never shoot again if lost them. Now only are these two of the greatest cameras from recent years, they are probably the last great film cameras we will see in many, many years. There are other, minor cameras that have been released, but these cameras are simply staggering in what they can produce. I've never been more pleased with spending so much money on camera gear as I was with buying these two.

Well, the good news is that I just bought a Bessa III.
The Bessa 667W/IIIW is out of reach after prices skyrocketed and the few that are available are in Japan. I keep my eyes open. Selling the 667W was the bigger mistake.

I couldn't agree more with you.

I've often been asked why I don't sell my gf670, as I barely use it, and my answer is simple: I could never replace it as easily as I could sell it. The cameras are amazing, they work extremely well, do exactly what I expect it to do, and are an absolute joy to shoot.

My GF670 is in japan getting its battery drain issue fixed right now. I hope it comes back working flawlessly.

Hogarth, my heart goes out to you on the loss of your dog. It probably sounds strange but I think I’ve shed more tears for our deceased pets than our deceased family members. Pets have a way of really worming their way into our hearts.

Take care,
Mike
