Bessa R2A shutter problem...

Just wondering if anyone knows what my issue might be...

As the heading indicates, I have a Bessa R2A thats been well treated and little used. This morning I went to put some film into it and after about 2 shutter releases during the film loading process it stopped firing. Shutter is cocked and the shutter release feels as if there is spring tension only with no other mechanical connection. Ive removed the film and moved and jiggled everything I can but to no avail. (one other point; I recently screwed a softie into the shutter release then realised that it was useless as it connected with the on/off switch when depressed so removed it - may or may not be significant here)

I live in Singapore and dont have any local support for this camera. Any suggestions as to what my problem might be would be greatly appreciated.

What shotter speed was it set to? did you wind-on too soon

I've bust shutters like that in the past when loading

I had just moved it off "A" to either 1000th or 2000th ...so it wasnt that. Annoying thing is it happened while in Korea, luckily I havent found much time or subjects of interest to shoot anyways and leaving tomorrow 🙄

No I hadnt checked the batteries ...thanx for the thought! Unfortunately, that didnt help 🙁

When you found that your shutter release button doesn't work, did you see lightmeter working (i.e. leds in your viewfinder)?

I am having same symptoms with my R3A. I cocked its shutter, kept it in my bag for two days and now it doesn't work. I hope it is just batteries being dead, because my lightmeter doesn't work too. Will try with new batteries in next 11 hours (I am at work at the moment).

craygc, you might want to try http://www.chiifcameras.com/. He is the local CV distributor and might be able to help you out. Last I heard from him, he was being trained on doing the repair work. 🙂

I had already dropped it off at the "Camera Workshop"; was recommended by my buddy at Cathay Photo. Got it back today and it seems to be all working well but I just feel that SGD$250 (~US$185) was a little steep for a jammed shutter in a mechanical camera. Anyways, thats life! Its back working again so all are happy 😀

Will certainly keep Chiifcameras in mind for next time...

Thanks for the info re Voigtlander in Singapore. I plan to stop over in Singapore late next week en route from Balikpapan to Perth and wanted to compare prices with Oz
