Never used the MP so I have to say the M3..

I like M6 TTL 0.85 with meter and 35\50\135 frames in one window.
Out of the Leica Ms I've used... which are the M2, M3, M4, M4-2, M6 Classic, and M8, I'd choose the M4 for film and M8 for digital. However, out of the ones I haven't used, I'm partial to the Leica MP being the top Leica film camera and the M9 being the top digital... to me, they are the ultimate Leica M cameras and its encouraging that they are current models.

Never had one, but the MP looks glorious.

Maybe the poll should have asked what is the best "M-type" camera? If that were the case, my vote would be the Canon P or L1. They are much cheaper, easier to load, handy, reliable, and just as robust than any M in my opinion. They are only lacking in the prestige (some say snob) factor.

I picked the M4 because it's the one I own - and I guess for many it has the right balance of the build quality of the older M's and some of the "features" (quick loading) of the newer M's - though I can't be positive without having used them all, I'm sure the build quality of the newer ones is up there with M3-2-4. It's an absolutely fantastic camera, although I do sometimes wish it had ttl metering, and I occasionally look longingly at the M6.

I should think the answer to this question is, the one that you use to take pictures.
In my case it is a M6 TTL.

Am I the only one who thinks the viewfinder on the M3 is a deal breaker because of those rounded corners? Its not the way I see or the way I make prints.

What about the best M, in terms of how many classic photographs ever made by one model/ type?

no you're not =D then again, I don't really perceive the framelines as the actual edges of the photo.

The cool thing about the rounded M3 corners is this:
- for close up photos fit a frame inside the rounded corners.
- for far focus, fit a frame outside the whole frame.
If that makes sense.

I think the correct answer to the poll is "yes."

The best "M type" camera is the Zeiss Ikon. It is like a Leica M, only better.

M4/p of course. Used one for years before I gave it away in favor of my Retina IIa.

Been thinking about an M7. Wonder why they ranked so low in the poll. Maybe more people have the MP or M6?
I think the M7 is just a little more controversial, in that some don't like its battery dependency. If included in the poll, perhaps the CLE, Hexar RF, the "A" Bessas, and the Zeiss Ikon might have suffered as well...Been thinking about an M7. Wonder why they ranked so low in the poll. We're all light!
Probably little other than the old "If it needs a battery to run, it's (a) Not a Real Leica, or (b) not trustworthy" gambit. I'd be pleased as punch to have one. But, I've been using a pair of Hexar RFs for the better part of a decade, so you'd expect me to say that.Been thinking about an M7. Wonder why they ranked so low in the poll.
