Another Vote for a HEXAR RF - Did we get a Hexar section on this forum yet? Canon has one, Nikon has one, It's time for a Hexar RF to have one too!!!!!

Personally its the M6TTL for me. I had opportunities to buy other models when I was using other camera systems and I had already set in mind the TTL, then one came up and I took it.
For me its the logic behind it. All Previous Leica's had that miniscule shutter dial which for me and the shape and size of my hands wasnt favorable. We in the west read from left to right, we see from left to right top to bottom, its in our learning sytem and its an embedded response. The TTL with its built in lightmeter, points in the direction the dial must be turned in order to achieve the correct exposure. No thinking about it just do it. The dot is that perfect little pique telling you that the roll of E6 you have loaded will be exposed perfectly and within latitude. The dot and the arrow tell you that you are going to get the highlights on the money and the shadows black, or your shadows in detail and your highlights out. Its the perfect and simplest way of mastering your light.
The TTL part of it, well I havent ever needed to use a flash, I dont like then and I see that as an uneeded part of the camera that I love, I just dont use it.
I also love it because its completely manual. No batteries necessary. Its solid, and reaffirming, and you know that you will get the shot.
With the standard .72 viewfinder, I can use a 28mm lens right up to 135mm its versatile. I love the feel of an M3 but that viewfinder is impractical, for me a wider angle lens is essential because -for me- if the shot os worth taking its worth getting up close and actually meeting the people your about to shoot. The longest lens Id ever be comfortable with is a 50mm and even at that its too long.

but too bad it doesn't have the M4's rewind lever
I have never understood how anyone
could order an a la carte MP
and NOT get the rewind lever!

I actually like the M[23P] rewind post. But the M5 and CL crank, safely tucked away, might be even better.
 
I currently own M2 (x2), M4-P, MP, M8. I've tried M1 and M6ttl (shutter speed dial goes backwards -- AAARGH -- but then so do M7 and M8), and handled most others inc. M4, M4-2, M6, plus (though I've never taken pics with them) MD, MDa, M5 (nor would I want to -- huge, ugly, clumsy) M7.

I usee to have M3s but sold them. If you don't care about meters or a 35mm frame, the M3 is the sweetest and smoothest (I've had 3 and handled countless more). But the first two I sold because of the 35mm problem, and the third (black paint) I swapped for a new M4P some 25 years ago: rough as rats, and an appalling black chrome finish, but a much more usable camera.

I'm currently seriously considering outing the two M2s and the M4-P to buy another MP. So: unlike many people, I've tried a lot of 'em, and although the MP isn't as sweet as an M3, it's the camera I'd far rather have.

The biggest surprise for me is the very good voting for the M6 and M6 TTL (together the M6 is the second best after the MP), it is without a doupt the Workhorse (and with the best price) of the m-line.
