Well I'll eat my words. The M3 is the finest photographic piece I have ever owned.I have an M6 and I think I like the NikonFM3a better. it is more versatile.![]()

Same here. I voted for the M5 (way back when I still had it) but the M3 is much nicer.

I have an M6 TTL, and I do enjoy working with it, but I voted for the screwmounts. There is absolutely no doubt that if I could only shoot one Leica it would be my IIIc, dinky rangefinder and all. Even though the IIIc is a slight re-design from the originals, I do think that Barnack did have it right in the first place. Maybe I'll try one of the IIs one day to see if I like the smaller body better but so far I have seen no need to do that.

When you want a truly good 50mm finder, there is no alternative for the M3.
Leica M3, Summilux 50mm f/1.4 v2, Tmax100.

leica will NEVER bring out a new film leica but has promised to build the existing ones as long there is a demand. (Photokina 2012)My M3...
I keep going back to it. I've never doubted the loading of film in that camera.
Yes it's slow but it works first time every time.
My M4-P is OK but somehow it's "different"... You have to make sure the film is absolutely in the sprockets before you close it.
With my M3 that happens almost automatically because the film is under that tab in the take up spool. It doesn't move once it's in there.
I wonder if Leica will ever bring out a new film M as good as the original M3![]()
What they also promised : when the new factory is ready in Wetzlar, they will produce small runs of the spare parts for the old models that are now out of stock.

Well there have been some polls here but they always mix film+digital or other non M cameras..
Would be curious to ask to M users which is the best M camera made.

I don't know which is best. My favorite is the M4-2 I have now.

Hi,
Thanks for saying "I don't know which is best. My favorite is the... " and underlining that there's no way we can decide on what's best but favourites are easy to choose.
My favourite varies, according to the day's plans and events. Usually the events are not as planned...

I am sure, that this post, as easy as it is, will bring confusing and inclnclusive results. I have voted M7, but I wish I could vote Zeiss Ikon, which in fact, and quite an obvious fact, is overall the best M mount camera for what it does.
However, this answer is inequivocably correct, if the question is: what is the best M mount camera for typical rangefinder application shooting - e.g. photo journalism, street and travel photography.
The answer will be different, if the question is: which is the most sexy M mount camera for fondling, or : which M mount camera will be best for tripod shooting in the anctartic, or which one is best for driving nails, or which one fits best in my pocket...
