i'm excited and really, i can't figure out why…
might be the advent of something different to shoot with, the possibility of getting some good shots because i'll be shooting a 'new' camera…perhaps i am as shallow as some have accused me in the past…i don't care…it feels good.
what am i talking about?
i have a nice panasonic lx3 coming to me via the pony express…i had the lx2 (i think it was a 2) before and liked it..and on sunday night i'm going to look at a canon elph sd1000…i have always liked the looks of that little thing and after checking out some pics on flickr…i like what it can do also! and the price is so low i can throw it into any pocket, bag or trunk and not feel guilty.
so my fujis for 'serious' shooting and the pocket cams for everyday play…a poor man's paradise...

Where are you going to find APS film, and a lab able to process it?
I had the Leica equivalent, the D-Lux 4. Hated it and returned it - terrible noise and grain even at base ISO. You'd be better off with the camera on your phone.

I own the LX3, it is laying around somewhere. At the time is was the best low light compact - yes, that didn't say much and I haven't used it much. But it has a good UI and it is better then your phone. Just shoot RAW and develop yourself. Your phone destroys all details fighting noise, the LX3 doesn't.

Oh, make sure you have the latest firmware, ads a square picture to the 4/3, 3/2 and 16/9 options.

Joe, my Canon is always out, sitting patiently to be used as a subject or as a picture taker. I'd love to get another one for my wife as she uses it too, to take pictures of her quilt labels.
I've got a 4GB card in ours and have never 'run out of film' with it yet, except when shooting video from my toy trains. 🙄

The next iPhone is rumored to have a camera leaps ahead of what's available now on smart phones. That may be the death knell of compact digital point and shoots.

I have quite a collection of these 35 mm "pocket" cameras and have to say that by far the best is the Minox 35 GT. Sure, it has scale focusing, but any photographer worthy of the name should be able to work with that. It's light, durable and great fun to operate with - and I've seen some amazing images produced by a Minox (not many of them mine, sad to say)...TW

Nope, at that time the best was still the Fuji F30fd/F31fd, which used to sell for more used after its discontinuation than it used to when it was new. It wasn't until the Canon S90 that the Fuji was finally dethroned.
I bought my wife a Sony RX100 when it came out to replace her F31fd, but she doesn't like the RX100 and keeps going back the F31fd instead.

I always wanted one of those Fuji F30s back in the day. I've just arrived in the Dominican with my rx100, and discovered there's no SD card inside, so it's iPhone for this trip. I resisted lugging my OM2n and crap, should have brought my XA. :bang:

My kids have the i6 and it is surprisingly good, but they're as comfortable to use as a mackerel. They're ok as crash cameras, but I need a decent grip and a shutter button, etc.
OT, Apple should buy/partner with Leica on this. Perfect brand and culture merge and both would benefit. The "T" is a perfect example. Panasonic-Leica only helps Panasonic brand (I hope leica makes a lot on the licensing).

Yes, the i6 is shockingly good. But as you suggest, I literally can't get my hand(s) around comfortably using it. I tried the + button and I think it might have been worse.

well, the deal on the sd1000 fell through...the seller never showed up...some people's kids...
but i lucked out with another ad for a canon sd780 for the same low price and have been playing with it this morning...gotta love the internet, found a manual, read it and set up the little red canon...the panasonic is in the mail and should be here next week some time, with luck...

Nowadays the XA2* or Konica A4 or Leica mini 3 (and family) or mju-II or Ricoh R1 or Yashica Minitec Super or Yashica T3. Little to decide matters, finally, between them. And there's the XA1 but it's a summer time camera.

Picked up a Contax TVS II recently. Great camera, very solid build. These are very affordable, much less than the T2. A bit on the big side for a jean pocket, but fits nicely in a small belt pouch.
