Black Paint M4-P?

In theory, would it be possible to strip a brass black chrome M4-P of its cover and get it repainted black? How much would something like that cost?

By the way, this is pure curiosity.

I think thai is impossible, because the M4-P is black chrome. In other words, the elimination of the black chromium plating of the M4-P is too dangerous and intrusive, in my opinion. Maybe, is better painting in black a chome Leica M...

Anything is possible, but at a cost! To strip a M4P and paint it would probably cost in the region of $5-600 and it is not really worth it! To strip the black chrome and the nickel substrate is not easy and requires highly specialized chemicals. Black chrome does not want to came off!

I don't really. I'm happy the way it is.

I'm just curious of what is actuallly possible. People replace finders, loading systems, etc. Why not black paint. No intention of doing so.

No, I understand the desire or thought of changing things around.

But changing from *black* chrome to *black* paint... that's what I don't get. Is it the texture? the look? the gloss? the reflection?

The only two reason for changing from black chrome to black paint is a/ have a brassy black M4P or b/ the tactile sensation of the black paint. It does feel a bit "warmer' to the touch than the black or bright chrome.
There is nothing to prevent you from using a Dremel with a steel brush on it and rough up the black chrome and then add a subcoat of matte black paint and a top-coat of glossy black.
The M4-2 and M4P has an advantage that the engravings are few and what is there is quite deep and easy to refill with white if you want.
Is it worth the effort? Probably not, but dont let that prevent you from doing it. Occasionally it is good to do things that are not worthwhile - just for the fun of it!

No, it was brass, but the black chrome fades first to a dull gray undercoating that's part of the process of getting the black chrome finish onto the underlying metal.
