I acquired an Alden 74 on Friday and thought it felt a bit heavy, and being a bit of a fool, I cracked open the film-spool area... and was greeted by a reasonably sized roll of film in there.. I slapped it shut, and figured if I hadn't exposed it, somebody else surely was curious and opened it too..

Had nothing to lose and I figured that maybe you'd only ruin what was loose, and not the whole spool, so I pulled about 3' out of the loader and tossed it, and then loaded a canister and went out and fired it off.

Developed it this afternoon (Ilfosol 3/6min @20C) with a roll of Foma 200 and low and behold! Images!

The edge says "KODAK TX 5063, I think; uncertain of the 63 on the end.

Appears that it must be Tri-X 400?

Film is still drying, so I can't yet say if it's fogged or ruined.

Uncertain on times, but, it looks like the Tri-X 400 with I-3&20c seems to want more than 6 min according to Massive Dev (more like 12).

I've been mostly doing my Foma 200 at 6-min, according to MassDev, that's good, anybody else have any experience with Ilfosol 3?

Thanks,

J

5063 is the product code for Tri-X. There is a 5063 flickr group, another good source of sample images and information. Good luck.

And oh... ALWAYS open a bulk loader in complete darkness or a changing bag. 😀

You're right; I didn't even think of why it'd be so heavy, I just wanted to open the film-bay and see what I had to drop my existing bulk roll onto.. My eyes got quite wide when I saw most of a roll already in there...

Next time I get a second hand loader! 🙄

Tri-X Professional ISO 320 was made in sheets and 120/220 rolls. It has a retouching "tooth" on the surface for pencil retouching. It has a different spectral sensitivity and a longer toe on the H&D curve. It's really designed for portraiture under controlled lighting conditions.

Fomapan 200 is not a t-grain film. It is also sold by Freestyle as one of their Arista 200 films. It's slow. Half box speed seems to be normal. It has the worst reciprocity failure ever. It develops quickly. All of that said, it has lovely tones, lovely grain and I like it. It is somewhere between a traditional film like Efke and a t-grain. Unique it is.
