Smaller? I don't think so.Yes fantastic price 🙂
No the camera is not out of date. It has all the features of the latest M262, but is smaller, 15 grams lighter, and makes nicer files OOC.
Not quite as good at high ISO, is all.
Also the 18mp files will not clog your computer. 🙂

No, those 5 mm are simply the thumbrest that is included. The bodies are within 0.5 mm of one another. The data sheet is a triumph of technical exactness over common sense.Source Tech Data sheets from Leica website.
M262 (L × H × D) Approx. 138,6× 42 × 80 mm
M220 (ME) (W x D x H) approx. 139 x 37 x 80 mm
So the M262 is slightly shorter but also thicker by 5mm most likely due to the larger battery.
Smaller? I don't think so.
Yes, I agree, in the US the M-E is $4800 new. I almost bought a used one from Tamarkin last week for $3300 but went for an M-9P instead. That seems like a good price.
The difference is insignificant. A professional can tell the relevance of a tolerance. The only difference between the cases is the position of the tripod bush. So I made an extra hole and use the same case for both. 0.5 mm difference in thickness. So yes, it is lighter (15 grams) and thinner (0.5 mm), but only those who suffer from the Princess on the Pea Syndrome will notice.
I bought my M-E new in April 2015 for $4200, so $3300 today is an outstanding price.
Other than high ISO performance, there is nothing really not to like with the M-E.
