Is it really as clean as that digital camera made it?

Jonas's Bessa? It really is. I held it for a few delightful moments in Antwerp last week, and it made me feel very greedy indeed.

Stuart, I have a Leica lens serial number info chart. It says your Summarit is form 1957.

Thanks Frank, I got the link in a PM from NikonBob, which was great. So 1957 makes the summarit one year younger than my M3! Meanwhile, I have begun testing it and it seems to be doing pretty well, and I think it is working the way I had hoped. Here's a lady who is probably a few years older than the lens...

And then to say I wrote my signature before noticing this thread *blush*. I refuse to get my hands dirty on camera porn, but here's me with a cup of coffee plenty of years ago when my hair was still long

Different shot, Jonas... like it. MelanieC, like your avatar and your M3 looks NIB! Upload some shots from it to Gallery! Stuart, great light.

This is an RFF first: the coffee picks up more compliments than the camera

Thanks Joe! (not sure if you're serious or not, but that's OKback alley said:did you recover it yourself doug?

Yes, I had to do it myself because Aki did not have anything other than original and Camera Leather had only one lizard -- it didn't appeal to me.
Removing it was no trouble. The original covering on mine looked great with no missing pieces, but in fact it was loose everywhere. It would have fallen off in one piece if it had not been so brittle. As it was it came off in three chunks but with absolutely no effort.

Probably not -- I can only imagine how difficult it must be to remove Vulcanite that is in good shape; it seems to be incredibly durable. I began to see if I could get the covering loose from a 50's era 135mm Hektor but no way, I'll probably leave it alone (sparing from the lizard skin
