Nice angle on that Rolleiflex, Melanie.
I don't drink coffee. I had to drink lots of it when I was in the army and I never liked the way it scrapes the palate.
I have a pot of tea every day, though. Today it's sencha.

Thanks. In a way they may be the photos that 'saves' the Contessa for me. I haven't been too thrilled about the performance of the Tessar lens so far but it did pretty well here.

Classic set of photos Rich - they have that 60's / 70's look about them that I really like. You could also submit them to the Cameras and Girls thread...

Photos taken with a Contessa 35 RF camera.
Both are beautiful shots; my preference is for the first with the cup in the frame, but still... May I ask if you are still on the fence with this camera? This is the kind of thing out of that lens that I like, but...
Thanks!

William, yeah..I'm still a bit undecided when it comes to the Contessa and its Tessar lens. So far I think I've put four rolls through it and I'm still to be 'woved' by the results. Even in pretty easy lighting situations it comes across as a tad flat and not with the amount of sharpness that I tend to favour.
It's small and fun to use though but if it doesn't shape up soon it may be more of an occasional user than I had hoped for.

Cheers,

what is that big thing on the M6? I like the looks of it. Reminds me of my own longer RF lens. . . I like the focusing grip too. Really nice.

Rich, that makes sense. One of the nice things about this game is that there are so many different styles of lens to fit everyone's different tastes. I really like the look I see in my shots and think I see in your scans (though it is always difficult to be certain... ) but I can honestly understand your hesitation. Out of curiosity, have you considered a shootout between this Tessar and your 50/1.5 Sonnar? I realize, there is a small bit
of speed difference but put the lenses in similar extreams for thier designs and see how they fare from that perspective? I think it might be illuminating... but then, I'm a known Tessar bigot, so take the suggestion for what it's worth...

Funny you should mention that as I just a few days ago was thinking about why I like certain lenses and which ones I *really* like so I had a vague idea about doing a little shoot-out between the four normal lenses that I tend to use most;
- Leica Summicron 50/2 (first rigid version, mid 60's),
- Leica Elmar 50/3.5 (mid-30's),
- Tessar 45/2.8 on my Contessa (mid 50's), and
- Zeiss Sonnar 50/1.5 (mid 50's)
I'd shoot a few wide-open and a few at f/5.6 and the purpose isn't really to compare the lenses from any technical perspective - but rather to finally make up my mind about what lens *I* prefer out of the four and what lens should be 'the one' to bring when I want to shoot something well.
Now I may actually do it

I hope you do that. I really should do the same -
50/2 Collapsible Summicron
50/2 Jupiter 8 (classic Sonnar Clone)
50/1.8 (another really great Planar like the Summicron)
45/2.8 T Tessar (Contessa 35)
& if I can borrow another one, an Industar 61L/D tessar recalculation. (Used it often in the past, but don't own one currently)
I would expect little, if any, difference between the Canon & Leica lenses. But the others? That's where the fun begins...

If I do it I may throw my Canon 50/1.4 into the mix as well along with an Olympus 35SP.

Some pics of my Leica M3 D/W with a Canon 50/1.2. This is my favourite shooter at the moment, although it is a bit weighty
Here's another, with its original Elmar 50/2.8...a bit more pocketable and goes everywhere with me.
