Camera and Coffee

The above als illustrates the Manfrotto tabletop tripod I mentioned once in another thread. Together with a self-made extension. It's a really good tripod for its size and cost.

Finally got a coffe shot to share. I was out and about running errands the other day and had the Kiev 4 out with the Jupiter 12 on to test my homebrew viewfinder. I also had the Karat along with it's test roll in it. So I got a shot of the Kiev and coffee with my homebrew mounted on it.

Hey William, I'm thinking of getting a Kiev -- since I have a Zorki and a Fed is on its way to me courtesy of a fellow RFFer. Any advice for me on the Kiev? Things to watch out for? Things you like/don't like?

I agree....... cool it is! In fact, with the rangefinder on top, it could easily be a prop for Star Trek. It looks very futuristic.

NICE!! 😎

Joe, no it's a regulat neck strap. I've pondered getting one, but I've never had a chance to try one.

Michael, I am a very big fan of the Contax/Kiev series of cameras. The shutter is the weak spot after years - if you go through one of the high rep vendors (Fedka, OK, etc) you'll spend more but get a usable camera from the get go.

The lenses are lovely - both Ziess and Soviet - and overall there is much less demand for them so they're still cheaper than the equivalent in LTM.

Mine has a bit of a light leak problem, but I'll be getting some foam and fixing that in the near future. In the meantime, the lower half of the neverready case keeps the light where it belongs.

Just because, after all, I did a family portrait of my rather lonely Kiev. With coffee of course. When the III gets home, it'll not be so lonely.

Heh. Just a nice place with decent light to do the shots at while keeping them out of grabbing range of an eager 3 year old... 😱
He really loves "daddy's camera" - that's why he now owns a rather thoroughly broken Lynx-5000... 😀

How do you make a wrist strap?

William

i've been thinking about taking off the metal part (at the end) and sewing the ends together. this way there is no chance of it separating. i use the collar (close to lug) to 'fit' the strap on the wrist and then the camera stays put.
i hope this makes sense.
