Thanks for taking that shot ... and that wasn't even ALL the RFs!

Truth time: The tiny brown rectangular case behind my SPs is my Minolta 16, given to me on the sly the other evening by my wife's stepfather. He quietly slipped it to me to avoid any WAF (wife acceptance factor) issues! It's in good shape, and the case has little compartments inside for CLOSEUP LENSES, which are included!

The Minolta 16 is a viewfinder, not an RF, so technically it was an "outcast" (someone had to keep Salman company!), but everyone thought it was very cool.

I don't have any cartridges in which to load film, so I'll be looking for some. Anyone?

Hi, Trius -- I used to have a Minolta 16-II back in the mid-60's and I don't now recall its fate. I only shot B&W in it, and should probably dig those negs up and do some scanning. Mine too came with close-up lenses and filters, very nice little kit.

Film is a problem nowadays; I think you have to load your own. Might do a Google search of the web to find some useful resources, including this one:

Doug: Yeah, I had done some digging and came up with some info on the Minolta 16, including the devices used to slit the film for loading into the cartridges. I saw that site, but hadn't explored it in full, yet.

I think having no commercial source of film available is a benefit. Without being able to just buy a roll, you can slit any film you want ... including Kodachrome! That may sound nuts, but I have some K64 I got very cheaply and might sacrifice a roll and have some fun. Due to the small negative size, I think fine-grained, slow film is reasonable. Maybe some Efke 25?

Yes, well, I am not happy to have missed the Toronto RFF meeting. Aside from loving the Canary around the corner, I used to really like going through G&W -- both before the renovation, and after. I enjoy Balzac's. You guys had way too much fun. Great weather you had too.

Well, thank you very much. I think my next trip is a friend's wedding. That reminds me to find out exactly when it is. It would be wonderful to see other members in the flesh, and T.O. ones at that.

einolu: What kind of camera is that? Looks like a FED or Zorki....

Here's my brand new (to me) Kiev 4AM with Helios 103 53mm 1.8, which just arrived today from G'Man (Thanks again!) It's posing with a cup of organic Columbian from our local Wellspring grocery which is housed in a cup made by my uncle who's a part-time potter. Sorry the pic isn't bettter, but it was take with a POS digicam.

The camera is some kind of zorki 1, clearly a good one because it has served me well. Its been around the world too.

Im guessing it started its life somewhere in russian around 1959 and came into my possesion in 2005. Since then it has been to many places, including: latvia, germany, and spain. I wonder what it saw while still in the USSR.

The lens is a jupiter 3.

As for taking pictures with shitty digital cameras, I do that a lot, it just takes a little work to get decent pictures out of them. The zorki 1 photo was taken with a 2mp minolta, heh.

Thanks Cap. It actually does have a very slight ding right on the corner near the rewind knob. Otherwise, it's in pretty good shape. All slow speeds seem to be in order, everything very smooth. It's an early serial #020xx with the "foot" and "locking" slow speed dial. Will need a slight RF adj, but the first roll is already in and the mini-release that ray_g sent my way is installed.

I'm a little jealous over the 4AM of yours though. Thought I had one coming this way some time ago (from your friend and mine) but alas, who knows where it went or if it ever existed? But, we'll see. If I can lay off the Zorkis now, I might start looking the Kiev's way.

einolu ~ Very nice looking combo. I really enjoy 1s. And the Jupiter 3 I would think a great setup for a Zorki 1.

Since all my film cameras are packed away while we await the building of our new house, I satisfied my film desire by getting a FED 2(d) off of ebay for 20$. Here it is shown with a metal 40.5mm hood I also got a few weeks ago off of eBay, at my local coffee shop where I read while waiting for my daughter to finish dance class...
