As a buyer, I would be interested in a serial # of a camera to ensure version, style, authenticity etc., but sellers are understandably reluctant to divulge these, as there are (apparently) now, a number of scams using this information.
So, as I am trying to sell my prized Leica body, 2 buyers, almost at the same time, ask me the same question "What is the serial number of the camera ?"
How would you respond to this ? Refusing to divulge may kill the possible sale, but responding with the information may open one up to a scam.
This is what I did-
"...It is 2781XXX. If you need all the numbers for a specific reason, let me know why, and I may be able to give out the numbers. The camera was bought from Xxxxxx, Yyyy Zzzz, and the receipt can be provided to the buyer with the camera..."
I wondered how often this comes up, and what might be the best approach to this.
