Winnipeg is the geographical center of Canada, and the capitol of the colony was moved from Bytown (Toronto) to Ottawa so that the Americans couldn't find it if they invaded again. lol

I see that sign on the highway everytime I drive to Winnipeg but don't brlieve it. Nice place to visit though.

A national get together is a nice idea but the distances to be travelled to get to one would make it impossible for most. That is just a guess though. I live in Ontario and would have to drive two days to get to TO and to fly would cost the same as TO to London England. Regional/Provincial meets might be easier to do. Just a thought.

Well, Montreal is extremely convenient for me, because I live there now. If it's here, I'd be glad to organise the trip to Chambly for the Unibroue brewery. Quebec City is gorgeous, but gets very heavy with tourists; not necessarily a bad thing, but it tends to feel a bit less 'authentic', if that makes any sense.

Toronto and Ottawa are easy for me by train and car, respectively. I'd do Winnipeg, 'cause I really like the vibe there, and I also have a friend in town. I've been through Sault and TB a few times in the car, and honestly, they don't seem very inviting... Saskatoon is a nice little city, and Regina is alright if you have warm, sunny weather. Do not go there in winter.

So what's the vote? And when? Maybe we need to just pick a weekend and a place, and then whomever can attend, does?

OK, I'll go out on a limb and propose a place and date. Montreal seems to be getting a lot of votes in this thread. So what say you all to Montreal over the Victoria Day long weekend (May 19-21, 2007)? The weather should be getting nice by then and we would all have seven months to make arrangements.

Attaboy Marc! Good pick for location and time; long weekends mean those with kids can maybe make it, too?

I fully support this proposition. Joe, you gonna be able to make it this far out? It was your idea, so it'd be nice if you were actually in attendance!

My wife and I have been thinking about taking a trip to Montreal in the near future, and the May long weekend sounds like a very nice time to visit. You can list us as 'probables'. I've lived in Canada since 1971 and never been east of Ontario, so I look forward to a Montreal visit.

Joe,

You are welcome to stay with Jo and I. We're not that close to downtown, but it's only a short ride on the metro, and I have a nice coffee machine (we'll even get some decaf if necessary).

Joe's one nose-thumbing to his cardiologist is full-test coffee. 😀

I may be able to swing this one, too. It's not a long-weekend for ex-pats south of the border, but I could make it so.

not so!
i am allowed 4 cups of real coffee a day. of course they mean 2 of my cups.
and i enjoy them too.
