Canada canadian rff meeting - May 19, 20, and 21, 2007.

(11) Moi aussi.

I'm supposed to organise this event, so I guess I'd better pay attention to the headcount, too, eh?

For relatively cheap lodging, the Montreal Auberge de Jeunesse is in a very good location. It's an official Hostelling International (HI) Hostel and is open 24h, which is always a plus. There is a self-catering kitchen, which means you can save some money on food, too.

If you have an HI membership, and know what hostelling is all about, this looks like a good option. If anyone is interested, let me know and I can take a trip down there to scope it out.

Some cross posting is happening.

Here is the link to the hostel
http://www.hihostels.com/dba/hostel011002.en.htm

And some more of the misplaced converstation.

That looks like $26 CA a night. Definitely an option. Would anyone else consider it?
Absolutely yes. I have a hard time paying big bucks for a room where you simply lie down, close your eyes, and sleep in.
If I didn't already live in Montreal, that's exactly where I would stay. I've hostelled a lot, so I'm comfortable with dorm rooms and (occasionally) creaky beds.

I'm going downtown at least once between now and Friday afternoon, so I will swing by and take a look. I will then return, and provide you all with my impression of the place.
If I snore, and I do, will I tick off others in a dorm room?

Frank: If you snore, don't worry about it. When people decide to stay in dorm rooms, they accept the risk of not having a good night's sleep due to snoring, talking in the sleep, creepy roommates, etc... Hostelling is fun!

I snore, too, so what I always do is to wear earplugs. That way, if I wake others with my snoring, I don't have to hear about it! :D

OK, I checked out the Montreal Auberge de Jeunesse (Youth Hostel), and it's clean and in generally good repair. For those of you who are familiar with hostelling, you'll be happy there for sure. For those who are not familiar with hostelling, it'll probably make for a good introduction.

The dorms are 4, 6, or 10 people. Each dorm room has its own washroom facilities (toilet, sink, shower). This means you only have to share with the other people in your room, not the whole hostel. If you do not want to sleep in dorms, they also have private rooms, which I believe have their own facilities.

This is an official Hostelling International hostel, which means that members usually get a better price. You can find out more about HI membership by clicking here. You can see more details about the Montreal hostel by clicking here.

Please post to let me know if you are interested in staying here. If we have a group of 10+ people, we can get a better rate and even negociate a room or two that will be only RFF members.

Cheers,
BJ

I don't know if it's been said before, so just in case: The dates for this RFF meeting will be May 19, 20, and 21, 2007. This is the Victoria Day long weekend.

I've stayed in the Hostel in Quebec City a couple of times, it can be fun. One of my kids has stayed in the Hostel in Montreal and the one in Boston. She said it was like night and day... Montreal much, much nicer than Boston.

Say, how do you Canadians feel about an American with Canadian roots possibly joining you from south of the border on that weekend?

fiddler: I'm a Canadian w/ murkin roots, currently in Rah-cha-cha, and I am planning on being there, though it's not a certainty. Vermont is pretty much a province anyway.

You bring your fiddle, maybe GeneW will bring his guitar.

Fiddler, I will pick you up in White River Junction on my way through.

OK, count me in for the RFF group rate. Put me on the snoring side of the room too.

I was kind of hoping for something in between (cost-wise) sleeping with smelly teenagers and Earl and Gene's champagne and truffle breakfast at a five star hotel......maybe a clean motel or the like.
I was thinking an early train or cheap flight out of Pearson or Hamilton Sat am, return Sun eve.....or possibly even driving Fri eve. I can fit 3 of the GTA guys very comfortably and I don't mind at all, just pick a spot with free parking off the 401.....but we'd have to leave Sun mid aft to get back at a reasonable time Sun night. Monday is recuperation day.....
Any interest?

I don't want to say too much, but I think that it would be great if everyone could arrive on Friday night, and leave on Monday. I know that won't work for everyone, but I think it would be nice if you could make it for the whole weekend.

Details will be forthcoming about plans, I just need some time to get it all organised... :)
