I have one of this in excellent condition - I bought a Canon 7 body from a London dealer about 15 years ago, abd he offered me the choice of the 50mm f1.4 or 1.8 in the price of the deal - guess which one I chose?
I too looked long & hard for the correct hood - finally found one earlier this year at £15 ($30) - works well too.
As to comparison with other lenses, we need to remember that the design is 40+ years old, so will probably not be quite as sharp as current asph lenses, but I have to say it is superb. Some time ago TomF99 and myself went to York minster to compare the Canon lens with his Nokton and Nikon 1.4 in the available darkness. Tom's results with my lens are nothing short of superb - he used his M2, I used my MP. Overall, the Canon held it's own against the nokton and was, probably, somewhat ahead of the Nikon.
This is one lens I will keep - I find it even compares well against my 50mm Summilux. Whether it is worth getting your one cleaned is debatable - there are plenty of these lenses around in good condition. If I were to find one in a dealer over here, i would expect it to be the thick end of £250 ($500) so you price does leave some room for the cost of a cla, but you are likely to find one on the bay for a lot less than $300.

Here is a picture I took last week at our local park. Film was Sensia 100,exp. f5.6 @ 1/60s. I love this lens, I've taken pictures of the same subject, same camera with the I-61L/D, Jup-8, and I prefer the Canon. The other two acquit themselves very well but the Canon just has more "it".

Providing the fungus has not "etched" the glass, it will be well worth getting it cleaned. Even with the cost of this, it will still be a fair price for the lens. I had one and it was a cracking lens. The only reason it went was that it was too similar to another 50 I had and didn't need the extra stop in speed.

Nice pics on this thread. I'm beginning to use the Canon 50mm f/1.4 LTM. Here are three shots from my first roll with it.
Not great pics, I know. But the lens is good, I think.

The Canon 50mm/1.5 is a Sonnar design like its "big brother" the Zeiss Jena 5cm 1.5. The J-8 is a smooth looking Sonnar.

Hi Bigdog,
It may be a good idea to shoot without repair. It may give you an interesting result or you may not notice those imperfections.
My copy -- I got it in Japanese auction for $150 -- works very well with both in color positives and negatives despite some scratches. It's my A-team lens. Enjoy.

First portrait with my CLE (from Rogrund on RFF.com). RF patch supposed to be misaligned... Lens is Canon 50mm f/1.4 LTM wide open, film is Kodak 160VC expired.

Just bought a 50 f1.2 in addition to my scratched up 50 f1.4. It's comparison of two lenses @f1.4. What do you think?

Love the 50 f1.4 for its compactness and the 50 f1.2 for the extra stop. Both seems to have no focusing issue.

In your test, the 50 f/1.2 seem a bit better in sharpness and much better in color rendition.

Yes n No. I guess these shots are not really good test. I can't get consistne WB when shooting objects in my house. Must be my lightings screwing up the tone.
I have the same problem with my other cameras and lenses.
These are some shots taken on my MP with the Canon 50 f1.4 LTM.
