You may have a setup that solidly qualifies as a "Do you like my photograph?" as the off-branded gear you're using looks to be producing excellent results. Results worthy of brands with caché.

Thanks guys--- Long and winding road to this set. Much buying and selling but this is really a high water for shooting and collecting fun!

The L2 is simple and dependable - I really prefer black cameras so it was lucky to find this custom painted version out of Japan.

The Acall was lens I sold many years ago with regret and finding another at a reasonable price took several months. The Rokkor was a steal (under $200) and I took a chance on condition/functionality... it's a rare one and not something I thought I would ever find/afford. This example has wear and tear (user) but it's BLACK and it shoots FANTASTIC.

The Acall, the Rokkor, the L2 plus Tri-X is a great mix and my success rate with shooting seems high so far... more film to process soon will let me know.

Nice-looking camera/lens combo and thanks for the pictures - the Super-Rokkor ones are noteworthy. I've used a borrowed Super Rokkor Chiyoko 45mm-1:2.8 M39 and can recommend that too, although the handling is not as good (quirky aperture setting). Still, it's very compact, and I liked that.

Shot three rolls over the holidays with the Canon. I used the 50mm Super Rokkor for the majority of the pictures and the 35mm Kyoei Acall for the rest. Two rolls of Tri-X and one roll of Agfa Color 200 for fun. The only issues were some light leak or lens flair on two shots and slow shutter hang-up on a few very cold night shots. Oh-Well....otherwise all good.

I love that black L2 camera and the photos you're posting. I have an L3 and it's such a nice camera, seen here. For now I have an inexpensive Industar 61 lens on it. I've only shot one roll through the L3 so far with great results. May I ask how your photos are scanned? The tonality is really great, plus sharp and clean.

I agree that the L1 L2 L3 cameras are quite nice - I've had a few of them over the years.

My work is all processed by TheDarkroom.com - they always do a great job for me🙂 Doesn't matter what I send them - 35mm B&W or Slide or C41, 120 and even 127 film... always well done - every time.

Sometimes I opt for high resolution scans but normally I just go for standard res which looks great on a screen. They host them online as part of the deal and of course, they send me the processed film and a CD.

It is also often found with other brand names as Acall did this a lot - let other companies sell their product under their own names. The 35mm lenses seem less commonly found bit are still out there and not exactly uncommon.

The thing about the Kyocera lenses is also that there seem to be so many variants and focal lengths. At the moment on eBay for example is an 80mm f3.5 which is rather unusual. At least I never heard of one before.

Wow - yes- that 80mm Acall is really cool! Sort of hard to put an accurate price on rare (but not cache) name equipment. I guess it's worth what someone will pay..?😕

It is a very nice looking lens in the tradition of Acall's other offerings (the 105mm and 135mm f3.5 and even the 35mm f3.5 are similar in style).

They also made a range of lenses for other mounts - though quite often in M42 lens, other SLR mounts seem to have included Exakta, Petri, Canon etc. Some of these look to be jolly nice lenses too. See this one - 180mm f3.5 - gorgeous!

Have wanted a black Canon RF forever. I have been searching for someone to do a cla and black paint on my first P, from what I can remember the factory did not offer the P in black but not worried about that.

Disclaimer🙄 NOT an expert -

I have heard that before; something like- "the factory did not make black paint cameras"
I think that because the serial number batches are mysterious and not as organized. Peter D is an expert on this from what I've read. Stephen Gandy has done nice write-ups on the black Canons too.

Seems that Canon most definitely DID make factory black cameras... maybe it was not real official and/or organized and perhaps by special request.

Canon guys can chime in but from what I've picked up over the years the very very early Canon was in black...then you sometimes see the VT (deluxe), VI-T, L-1, P, and 7 (and maybe a few 7S cameras, but seem to be paint over chrome).

Not sure if there were others like L2, L3, and the various VL cameras...
And sure there are lots of "fake"/custom painted bodies (like my L2)

Canon did make black rangefinder camera bodies. Production cameras too, not special order. V-series, L-series, VI-series, Canon P and the Canon 7 were all made in black.

Really,really cool 😎 I wish there was more history about how many of each type were made...Seems like the serial numbers are tough to decipher! Collect the whole set! 😛

I'm lusting after a Canon P (or L#). One of the best looking cameras out there. I've always found them far more attractive than any Leica.
