Though I've been monitoring this group for more then a year now, with great interest I might add, this is my first post, so I hope I'm doing this correctly.

The reason I write is because I own and enjoy using a number of older rangefinders (a few Canons, a Paxette IIM and a Leica IIF), and would like to start using them as macro cameras on a dedicated macro stand.

Up until coming across this listing, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7622147565 I wasn't aware that Canon made a macro stand system. And though the description states it'll accept most 39M mount cameras, and I realize my Canons should pose no problems, I was wondering if my Paxette and Leica will also work? This appears to be a well made and quite versatal macro system, and if the pictures are any indication, looks to be in excellent condition. Has anyone ever used a system like this, and if so, how well do they work?

Thanks,
Arthur

I would expect for this to sell for a LOT of money. It's rare, in exceptional condition, and there are some serious Canon rangefinder collectors out there. For what it will cost, you could easily get a used Canon F-1 and matching macro lens and bellows...

It's neat, I like the four-arm linkage for switching from the focus to picture-taking configuration, a lot more convenient than the sliding of a Leitz Focaslide.

The cost-effective method for RF would be a Focaslide. But what you'll find there is that the Focaslide may be cheap, but the lens adapters, helicals, etc., will nickel and dime you to death.

Or consider a Visoflex.

FWIW, the current high bidder is a well known Canon collector. The system is very well done, and is very seldom offered anywhere. I remember one on eBay quite some time ago, and I was an underbidder by a lot....

Thank you both for this information, though admittedly it has somewhat dashed my hopes of placing the winning bid.

Sure is a slick set-up though, and looks to be well thoughtout and beautifully constructed, even down to the wooden case. Sigh.......

It would have fetched something in the $400 range a couple of years ago, and may well reach this point again here. The RF things, especially the rare items, are not as depressed as the SLR's (Thanks Heavens!!!).
Good luck with your bidding.
