Yes, they are otherwise identical (except for the price, offcourse). I also can't find many differrences between an ordinary 'new QL' and a 'QL GIII' (except for a different rewind crank). If there are more differences, they must be under the hood or in the manufacturing proces. The 'new QL-17' and the 'QL-19 GIII' don't show up as often as the 'QL-17 GIII' or the 'new QL-19'. I don't know the reason behind this. I hope to be able to compare all four one day.

Oh, I just realised after reading g-man's post. The 17 has the battery check, the 19 hasn't. So there is another difference.

Ok, My thanks to all responded. I have been watching one (a QL19 GIII) and may buy it if the price doesn't get out of line. I have never owned any of the Canon QL series. I muct have about 40 RF cameras around here, some of them more than one of each and in every format from APS to 6X9. I really need to thin out the herd but it would be like selling one of my grandkids

If you look for a compact Rf, then the "New" Canonet or the G III are of choice. But if you may need slow speeds go for the old (bigger size) models which don´t lack the 1/4 , 1/2 and 1 sec. speeds. The smaller models have another difference re. the older models, a kind of easy flash feature which allows you to dial in the GN of your flash unit (if that isn´t automatic) and have aperture automatically adjusted to the distance.
I found the VF of the bigger and older models better (easier to focus and higher contrasted) than those of the "New" and G III types. Those were the reasons why I gave my New to a friend.
Ernesto.
