Canon Rangefinder Lens Price Guide

The 1.8/50 was one of the lenses that made Canons name... just bought a chrome/brass one, yellow-brown coated, true bargain, mint, 140 USD. The first slides say it's a jewel. Far better than the black one my Canon-P came with. From what I have seen, the fogging occurs more often on later lenses of this type.

I offered it up for sale here first. Nobody wanted it so I then put it on photo.net.

Too bad, because it was a beauty. Truly mint condition.

I think that the gods were smiling on me when I picked up a gorgeous chrome Serenar 50/1.8 for $56 on the Bay the other day. The ad warned of fungus, but it turns out that it was just some moisture on the inner elements, and my trusted camera tech should be able to clear 99% of it.

BTW, I've only handled FSU RF glass up to know, and I was astounded by the build quality and weight of this Canon lens. What a great piece of gear!

Good show on a good price on ebay for the 50/1.8. Stuff there has been going crazy, or so it seems to me. Pentax K mount lenses have gone out of sight in terms of prices.

I've been experiencing a bit of tha myself of late, which is why I've been selling off so much of my stuff. But I still have my 35/50/90 Summicrons and M6. As the guns nuts say, "You can have them when you pry them from my cold dead fingers." (no flames please, I am also a gun nut, and proud of the title).

I too have found that the Canon lens tend to fog up; but it mostly occurs on the surfaces on each side of the aperture blades. Must have been the oil they used; my Nikkors just do not do this. So far I have cleaned the fog off of 4 Canon lenses, one chrome and three black. Neither of the F0.95 (RF and TV) lenses that i have showed any evidence of the fog; but they may have been professionally cleaned before I got them. The rear group comes out easily; although the 50mm F1.8 took some grinding down of the tips to get at. Joe has it now. The lenses are hard-coated, so the haze came off without damage. On the F1.2 lens the oil "stained" the canada Balsam of the cemented rear pair, but no real effect on pictures.

Ok ok, after all, it's his lens and his auction, but you could always use a proxy buyer and have the lens shipped to you after.
 
Shipping outside of the USA, from the USA is tricky. You take on loads of additional responsability, and if you sold it via PayPal... the insurance they offer is null and void. Can be real scary as a seller.

The first time I had a buyer from out of the US, was for a Contax Planar 135mm in mint. Now... it sold for a bargin (sad), $1300. The buyer was in HK. Scarred the hell out of me. And he was a new bidder. And there was no listing for hong Kong in the USPS price list, so I had to guess at shipping...

Very scary.

Would I sell another lens to that buyer? In a heart beat. Transaction was scary... but very smooth.

Still, you might want to think about what stresses the seller goes through.

Yes that's also true, I can imagine that after a very bad experience somebody may prefer not to risk for the same on a second one, it's completely understandable.
 
I am sorry, but I don't understand what the risk is to ship something out of the country. I have sold at least 10 items internationally and had absolutely no problems at all with any transactions. I don't know when your transaction took place Rob and things may be different now, but the shipping calculator at USPS.com is very complete and accurate if you know the weight of your item. The first risk of a transaction is taken by the buyer who pays with a promise of delivery. The buyer of my R3a in Sweden became nervous after 2 weeks and I emailed him a scanned copy of my receipt from the post office with the customs form number on so that he could track down the package. The buyer of my Canon 135 lens is in Hong Kong and he choose to pay extra to upgrade the shipping so that I could send the package insured. I think the biggest risk is on the part of the buyer not the seller.
 
I'll even go one step farther and say that the seller of this lens looses money as a result of his decision as it cuts out such a large % of potential buyers who even if they don't win, may bid on his lens.
