Capitol

Thanks Bill for the link which bring us back to photography.
For sure it is an hard work to be a photographer in such difficult and dangerous situation. Nice to see there is solidarity among photographers, helping each other is important.

Nothing but admiration and respect for those in the media that covered this...

Those who make thinly veiled excuses for the behavior at the US capitol are complicit in the dissolution of democracy here in the USA. Stating some red herring type quid pro quo that there was justification for a person in Washington DC to have IEDs and weapons stockpiled and ready for use is abhorrent. That is not equivalent to a professional security officer using warranted deadly force when faced with a threat at the seat of US democracy. What we saw on 11/6/2021 was not some fun rally and was not remotely equivalent to any BLM protests of the past several years. A person stating such should also stand behind the thought that those who stormed the US capitol should have been treated the exact same as the protesters in the BLM protests: rubber bullets, teargas, batons, mass arrest. Instead, most were simply let go and now those who support them are slinking back into the shadows. Those persons who support or make excuses for this unprecedented attack on the US democratic process are not patriots, they are fascists. They can't see it and will never believe they are anything other than patriotic, but make no mistake, these are people who support autocratic rule in the USA. Fascists. Please don't forget it.

so apparently there was a MASSIVE data scrape of Parler. videos/photos (all geotagged) some drivers licenses. and people wonder how authorities were able to put people on no fly lists so quickly...

anyone who posted seditionist/ insurrection stuff on Parler is likely having a massive dump in their pants.

Part of this is the result of allowing the nut fringes to take control of both political parties.

With best regards.

The Parler data scrape itself would be an interesting topic here.

My understanding is that a group who routinely does large scale distributed backups of webpages (ie visit all the pages, archive all the publicly accessible data, etc) before large websites go down did that to Parler.

Interesting bits I’ve read stated that images/photos were sequentially numbered and trivial to pull down. Parler also preserved all metadata uploaded with the images so all of that is supposedly in the scrape as well.

I wonder if that’ll lead to thinking more about what they’re uploading in the future when uploading photos (or awareness on the hosting side about data they are exposing).

Another astounding image from these events.

peterm1 I love your picture. The Hong Kong protests go virtually un-noticed in the US. The Wall Street publishes articles, recently how a Youtube (?) video posted by a young women received a lengthy prison sentence for posting videos online of how the Chinese government controlled the Wunhan outbreak. Was it posted in the Australian news? In the US we are under going the same type of news repression. I'm not a fan of our president but all news must be suppressed about the president and his supporters unless the news evil.

Sorry about my delay in replying. My PC has been at the mender for a few days. Thank you for this Beemermark. Now as to HK, I do not recall seeing the video you refer to. The Australian mainstream media is near hopeless and I never bother much with it. But I suspect it would not have been covered. Nothing is published about the USA situation either, except for "orange man bad". Especially from our ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) which is publicly funded (with a Charter which requires balanced reporting) and yet spends all of its time complaining that its funds are not enough, fabricating hit pieces on every centrist or centre right government in the country, praising every hard left despot in the world and vomiting hard left propaganda and ideology. In short it is nothing more than a Green / Left propaganda machine, widely known as "Pravda on Harris Street" (its head office address in Sydney). In other words identical to almost every MSM outlet in the West.

peterm1, I don't think you know your bottom from your elbow. You'll now probably maintain that you were joking.

I hesitate to correct someone so well informed and knowledgeable but the correct expression is "asshole from your elbow".

I learned a long time ago to stay out of politics on Internet forums. I definitely have a point of view (DM me if you really want to know), but I would really like to just talk about the images captured on the day in question. I'd like to just hear about what happened from the people behind the camera. What you saw, what were you thinking, etc. from a photographic point of view.

I believe everybody in attendance had their phone with them. Said phone was pinging off whatever is running the internet and comms in the building as they were storming the place.

It is common for security services to operate a stingray at protests and so forth. I would safely assume they have data on most in attendance. Except for the folks who know this stuff already.
