Hey, you can call me all the names you want. It is no big deal. However, you did not answer the question. I am really curious. How does it feel to belong to a cult?
You mean how does it feel to be someone who believes in a constitutional republic? Feels damn good! Or how does it feel to see that same constitutional republic see its political elite on both sides create division among its people just for the sake of political power? That sucks. While I was never a great photojournalist, I did try to achieve more than some of the slanted views that the three rags Mr. Pierce linked to by keeping my cutlines on an even keel. As I noted before, BLM/Antifa members were never "rioters" in the eyes of the Post, Mother Jones, and many other publications. Yet when the "Silent Majority", as they have been called, finally reach a breaking point after four+ years they are "rioters". You may not see that as bias and on that we will have to agree to disagree!
And you did not answer my question(even though I left out a question mark). Do you really believe that Biden got 10 MILLION more votes than Obama in 2008 and 2012 and almost 16 MILLION more votes than Clinton in 2016? All the while doing his campaign from his basement? Might be time to wake up and smell the coffee.

I’d like to make a suggestion.
Anyone who has posted mere words in this thread (opinion, polemic, cant, pieties, etc.), but nothing in actual visual response to what Bill Pierce solicited—namely, links to the work of other photographers who were there—
Consider deleting your post. Bill Pierce solicited links to documentary work, nothing else. Take your feelings and opinions to a town hall or your own post. Respect what Bill has asked. He didn’t ask, as he so often does, “Your thoughts?”

I hate to break this to you, but maybe, just maybe, so many people voted this time around because they woke up and realized they had to get a lunatic out of the White House. If Wednesday does not convince you that Trump is a stark raving lunatic, then nothing will. Adios.

You mean the same lunatic that brought about the lowest unemployment rate for blacks, hispanics and women? The lunatic that took a stand to enforce our immigration laws and build a wall on our southern border? The lunatic that set up funding for historically black colleges and universities (HCBU) for the next decade that neither Obama OR Biden did during their eight years? The lunatic that lowered taxes, brought jobs BACK from China, rebuilt the American military, brokered several peace deals in the Mideast, etc., etc., etc. As I noted, I do not agree with Trump on many things but the way the media construes his rhetoric is more inflammatory than his actual rhetoric. You can keep believing in the fairy tales that MSM, Pelosi, Schumer and the rest are feeding you. In the meantime, I will continue to research ALL SIDES before making a decision on anything. As a member of the Baby Boomer generation, I was trained by The Greatest Generation (my mom and dad) to make my own decisions and not listen to all the BS. Anyone that believes something like the New York Times "1619 Project" needs to do some more research into history. 'Course history these days is whatever the MSM feeds to the masses.

...that will promptly be ignored. It was a risky move by Bill to start the thread, but I hoped people would have had enough of venting their grievances on other forums more conducive to political discussion.

Good point! But Mr. Pierce brought it on by posting to links to only publications that are historically left leaning. That being said I will delete my account (if I can find where to do that) or the moderators can delete my account. Either way I am done with liberals that cannot see the forest for the trees. So long, RFF!

I agree with Keytar and to be honest I don't think this thread should have even been started. OF COURSE this was going to start an online fight. Honestly not sure why this thread isn't shut down as it only fuels the fire of an already tense time.
That said, I should also say that I don't agree with Photog9000's political views at all (not picking on you, just that you had recently posted here), but I do know that we could likely have a great conversation about photography if we kept it in bounds! So in that, I hope we can all return to this forum as photographers, not as politically charged and concerned citizens. Maybe they are too intertwined, but I don't think they have to be...

Kudos to Bill Pierce for this thread...as it has re-ignited my interest in American riot photos of the past and there are some good images to peruse through... especially through that tumultuous decade of the 1960s , mostly the LBJ era and his "Great Society" initiative.
Thanks to Google images we can see some great photos in B&W mostly...my favourite image type.
The Chicago Democratic Convention riots of 1968 and Mayor Richard Daley :

The "Black Day in July" riots of July 1967 Detroit and the mess that created in Motor City:
https://www.google.com/search?q=196...AggAOgYIABAFEB46CAgAEAgQBxAeUJ3YC1iBlwxg2aQMa
And the Watts riots of August 1965, where Rev. Ray Boatright was killed in front of his church by rioters...Rev. Ray Boatright was the man who got young Semie Mosley into guitar building and the manufacturing the famous Mosrite guitar:

America has always been a riotous place and dangerously exciting yet it still endures in its many forms...I am positive for the United States of America ...a great nation among many great nations.

Here's a thread that will take you through what some photographers went through.
[I was sent to D.C. towards the conclusion of the Nixon presidency in part because a few of the long term D.C. photographers, unlike a nasty New Yorker, had grown used to special access to controlled situations after being on a steady diet of "photo ops" (Add to that, some of the best and most experienced D.C. photographers were old enough that long hours and unexpected, uncontrolled events were hard on them.) I suspect there are some parallels with the recent events, some very good people with very little experience covering violence. And yet, they did what most journalists do; they did their job. Didn't even think about it. Just went and did it. Hurray for them.]

Thanks Bill Pierce, This is the stuff we knew you for....... anybody can talk about buying more digital toys. Once a photo-journalist, always a photo-journalist.....

This is Bill's thread in Bill's Mentor area, so it's somewhat different from the mainstream RFF discussions, and Moderation reflects that. I think I'm correct in deferring Moderation here to Bill's request. I certainly urge all to remain on-topic, polite, civil, even friendly!

Putting aside the context and just looking at many of those images in and of themselves, I think they speak volumes.
The one that caught my eye most was this one from Time

This one in the above linked Daily Item gallery as well:

Many of the others where you can see the emotion in the eyes of officials as well whether they are politicians, staffers, security, whatever, just people at their place of work.
This one again from the Daily Item gallery seemed particularly relevant on a discussion on photo journalism too

I dunno, social democracy seems to do pretty well in the Nordic states, and I'm pretty sure they get to vote every few years![]()
Too often the "Nordic states" are held up as the success of socialism. Collectively, Denmark, Norway and Sweden have a population of 20 million with a combined area twice the size of California but concentrated in less than a third of that. Much of it is forrest or tundra. They have relatively uniform populations that for their unique historical reasons led to socialism or "social" democracy. It was an indulgence afforded them living under the protective umbrella of the US, who defeated the Axis, rebuilt a devastated Europe and protected it from predation during a half-century Cold War by creating a world order of mutually-beneficial trade and cultural rebirth after the utter devastation (see: Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Germany).
Want to understand why so many are terrified about the specter of Socialism? In the 20th century it rotted out country after country from the inside out (see: Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, North Korea, Egypt, Syria, Libya, Iraq, Algria, the former USSR and some of its satellite states, sub-Saharan Africa, Vietnam as well as India for 50 years after independence) with legacies of corruption, tyranny, scant individual opportunity, decrepit economies, crumbled infrastructure, erasure of individual rights and left tens of millions dead, imprisoned, enslaved or in abject poverty. China evolved into something more sinister; an authoritarian regime with an absence of personal liberty for its people or rule of law and a true Big Brother surveillance state. The more "benign" form, social democracy, left Britain by the 1980's a broken, has-been, post-industrial mess with legions dependent upon government for basic needs and a bleak future.
Anyone who has lived under such systems or whose parents escaped it, have no illusions about it nor an eagerness to "try our hand at it".
