i carry my cameras around my neck. Fine if my Digital point and shoot ,more pain if my Leica M. I am unable to carry more than one camera at a time!
Doing PJ work i often tried carrying a few cameras at a time.. very soon tied up in a bondage scene, that Houdini would have stayed in..
Camera in the open allows folks to know you are snapping. Less invasive.
My Leica M3 so battered and vulcanite missing(soon replaced) makes for conversation.

I tend to have the camera around the shoulder, sitting on my hip. I use one of the original domke grippers, black with no camera branding. I bought this strap back in 2006 for 1$ out of a strap bin at the local swap. Most of the gripper is gone, but its the most comfortable and durable strap in my bag.
I usually have the camera in hand even wile walking, the TA Winder makes for a firm grip. It also keeps that pesky advance out of my eye.

30 years ago - boy were those glasses ugly and I had hair, lots of it. yes, I have always carried cameras around my neck - maybe not this many. Tuulikki took the shot with her nikon F and a 105f2.5 on Technical Pan film.
Those glasses are now hipster cool...
I hate cross the body straps. Squeezing past people in crowds, through doors, etc., means that you're really likely to smash your lens on something. I always carry around the neck, when I use a strap. Blackrapids scare me. After seeing the pull out damage on some cameras, and the chance of the tripod screw loosening, no thanks

I'm with Joe on this. Or I wrap the neck strap around my wrist. I hate carrying cameras around the neck! Show-offs! Pretentious twaddle.

I usually carry my camera in my hand with the strap around my neck or under my arm bandoleer style. I don't feel comfortable letting it dangle so either way I keep my hand around it as much as possible. I am old enough that I don't feel the need to look cool anymore. - jim

When you are shootijng big game (photo-wise speaking) you crary more than one gun. Two around the neck, one with a shorter strap, one over the shoulder and one in the bag. Do you really want to go home and tell the Mrs. you missed a photo of Elvis because you didn't have the right lens available? I know dudes who have.

If out of the bag, then the camera is in my hand with strap around the wrist 95% of the time. Around the neck when needing to have both hands free or laid down on a table for a moment for the other 5% of the time.
I find that if I have two camera out with one or both around my neck that there is a greater chance that I will be banging the camera or lens. I enjoy working with one camera at a time in in my hand(s).

Same here - I carry my camera around my neck or with the st rap running diagonally across my chest & back. Hanging a camera or a camera bag on one shoulder is just inviting a slip/fall/break/repair/pay out money kind of situation.
Been there, done that, never again.
I never cared for wrist straps, either; when I am out making photographs, sometimes I need or want both hands free.

Last year for a 2 week hiking trip I modified a binocular harness for my Mamiya 6. It worked terrifically, keeping the camera both secure and available during the trip. No banging around while I was clamering over stuff and it allowed me to use both hands for my hiking poles etc. Around town, I just use a neck strap, generally hanging down, but occasionally with my arm thru the strap if I think that I won't be using the camera for a while.

Interestingly enough, I have always carried a camera with the strap wrapped around my wrist. My back gets tired when I carry a camera with a strap around my neck for too long. The strap is most handy when I have to change film, then I hang the camera with the strap around my neck as I change it.
