A new book for Chinese cameras!
A new book for Chinese cameras!
Hi all,
Just spotted a new book for vintage chinese cameras recently published. But only 500 copies were printed and they are not for sale. I will try to get a copy. It is a 360 pages book with a lot of interesting and rare cameras. It was written by a Mr. Zhuang who is 60 years old. I hope to get in touch with him, and hope that future edition will be published with photos of some of my collection I posted in this thread inclued.

We did a shoot on the festivities for the spring festival/lunar new year's celebrations here. We came out full-force, shooting with rangefinders. A friend who had been in China gave a few rolls of Chinese film- Lekai, Gongyuan, and Shanghai. BTW, your name (“张“） is also the character used for "exposures". The Gongyuan box says, "36张"....and I was half-expecting to find 36 'zhangs' inside!

Zhang probably is the most popular family name in China. Zhang for film is a frame in English, and for enlarging paper it is a piece of paper.Some friends gave me an English name- David. Is that a good name in Englsih?
I read about your new R-D1 and hope to see more pictures with those Russian optics.

I know it is still being produced. Only 60 some cameras were made over the years. I bought the camera for curiosity. But I think it is not a cheap camera when new. It should be more expensive than the Red Flag 20,and the Red Flag S16 cine camera.
Occasionally, I saw some China made adaptors for using 35 mm still camera lenses on C mount S16 cameras.

Guess I should let you know that I do have a Chinese optic gem-the famous Zhujiang 35/2.3 lens. It won many medals at various occasions for its high quality. So don't miss it if you saw one for sale at below $50. It focus from 0.3m. This is a lens made by Hongguang(red light) Camera Factory that was a military equipment maker. The hand grip pattern indicates that it is an early lens.
Many people said it is the best lens of the Zhujiang primes.

I know a little the SATECS DYALISCOPE anamorphic movie lenses. They are very rare because, as you know it, the " DYALISCOPE " is a particular format of French movies that has been created to counter the American standart. They are considered like excellent.
What model did you buy? In France?
For your last question, I don't know for the other French...but me, I have the very good Chinese friends who live in France (from Shanghai and Hong Kong)

Twice a year, there is a camera fair in Beijing. This is the best chance you can find some unusual items. More and more people are interested in old cameras over the years.
Some images of last April fair in Wukesong, Beijing. People came from all over the country, and some even came from foreign countries.
