Seagull have something like a MD, read it online but no idea when and where.

Zhang should be able to fill you in for more...

I wouldn't be surpise it is SLR base instead of RF camera base...

Will,

I think that could be one of the Seagull DF A,B,...type of cameras based on a SLR base.

Have you ever seen this 120 panaroma camera before? It is a 5.6x17cm format using 120 film. It is made by Phenix in Jiangxi.

Zhang,

Sent an email regarding setting up a sale point in Shengzhen to sell Chamonix LF cameras, no reply from Mr. Yue :(

Hi, Will,

The camera body alone cost a bit more than RMB 10,000! Just too rich for me. Do you want the Huaguang(华光) "IS11" 210/4.5 barrel lens? I have one and I think I saw some before. They are not very rare IMO and cost only 200-400 RMB. This lens has a resolution of 250 LP/mm wide open according to the instruction. How could that be possible?:bang: It is good for 13X18cm sheet film.

OK, I will see if I can find some. There are also Tesser type lenses from 135mm-180mm-240mm-360mm....barrel lens without shutter. Do you also want these?

Dear Zhang,

Thanks, I will be happy with the Huaguang for now. Someone on Chinaphotography.com done 2 adapters to mount it in front of a #1 or #3 shutter. I think I would go for the #1 one.

Really like the a example I found in Xitek. Minimal price to start off LF...

Thanks, Zhang

Will

Zhang,

The adapters are gone, only have one for ILEX #3 shutter, this is no good. Would you mind we put an hold this for a while?

A new book for Chinese cameras!

A new book for Chinese cameras!

Hi all,

Just spotted a new book for vintage chinese cameras recently published. But only 500 copies were printed and they are not for sale. I will try to get a copy. It is a 360 pages book with a lot of interesting and rare cameras. It was written by a Mr. Zhuang who is 60 years old. I hope to get in touch with him, and hope that future edition will be published with photos of some of my collection I posted in this thread inclued.:D

Cheers,

Zhang

Hi Zhang

恭喜发财!

We did a shoot on the festivities for the spring festival/lunar new year's celebrations here. We came out full-force, shooting with rangefinders. A friend who had been in China gave a few rolls of Chinese film- Lekai, Gongyuan, and Shanghai. BTW, your name (“张“) is also the character used for "exposures". The Gongyuan box says, "36张"....and I was half-expecting to find 36 'zhangs' inside! :D

Jay

Hi Jay,

Happy new year to you.:D
Zhang probably is the most popular family name in China. Zhang for film is a frame in English, and for enlarging paper it is a piece of paper. Some friends gave me an English name- David. Is that a good name in Englsih?:)

I read about your new R-D1 and hope to see more pictures with those Russian optics.

Cheers,

Zhang

I found a book that listed Chinese cine equipment. There are 11 types of 35mm movie cameras and 4 types of 16mm movie cameras. This SX16K was made by Linxia Sine Equipement Research Institute. It shoots at 6-144 frames/second, and is powered by a 27V battery. At 6-48 frames, the stability is within 0.01mm, and at 48-120 frames, it is within 0.02mm. I don't know much about movie cameras, but it looks like a high quality camera.:)

China also made 18 models of 35mm and 19 models of 16mm projection cameras plus many 8.75mm projection cameas, accesary lenses and related equipments. This area of Chinese optical industry was never mentioned before.

I think that SX16K is still in manufacture by Qinhuangdao Audio-Visual Machinery Research Institute. Very nice camera, but has only 60m magazine! :( It should not be expected from a high speed camera (max. speed @ 144fps).

The link updated in 2015: Chinese cinema equipment & raw stock film manufacturers

A mint example of this camera surfaced recently. Maybe only a few hundred cameras were made. It is a high quality 16mm cine camea in C mount.:D The camera is not mine. I post these clear image FYI.

Cheers,

Zhang

Thank you for clear pictures of S-16.:) If you have more clear pictures of Chinese cine equipment, I'd be delighted to download them.

I like this camera! These cameras were made by the Gansu Optical Instrument Factory (GOIF).

Hi,

I know it is still being produced. Only 60 some cameras were made over the years. I bought the camera for curiosity. But I think it is not a cheap camera when new. It should be more expensive than the Red Flag 20,and the Red Flag S16 cine camera.
Occasionally, I saw some China made adaptors for using 35 mm still camera lenses on C mount S16 cameras.

Hello J-Paul,

These are great find. They should be quite rare in France. The Easter S3s is not a very small camera. The Seagull 205should have a very, very sharp lens. I have an Easter S1, but I have never used it.
I found a French SATEC DYALISCOPE anamorphic movie projection lens recently. Is it a good lens? I also found a few of LIP,YEMA, and some other brand French watches. I wonder if French and Chinese peoples are attracted to each other?:D

Cheers,

Zhang

Zhujiang 35/2.3

Zhujiang 35/2.3

Hi,

Guess I should let you know that I do have a Chinese optic gem-the famous Zhujiang 35/2.3 lens. It won many medals at various occasions for its high quality. So don't miss it if you saw one for sale at below $50.:) It focus from 0.3m. This is a lens made by Hongguang(red light) Camera Factory that was a military equipment maker. The hand grip pattern indicates that it is an early lens.

Many people said it is the best lens of the Zhujiang primes.:D

Cheers,

Zhang

Hello Zhang,

I know a little the SATECS DYALISCOPE anamorphic movie lenses. They are very rare because, as you know it, the " DYALISCOPE " is a particular format of French movies that has been created to counter the American standart. They are considered like excellent.
What model did you buy? In France?
For your last question, I don't know for the other French...but me, I have the very good Chinese friends who live in France (from Shanghai and Hong Kong):D
Cheers

Hi,

Twice a year, there is a camera fair in Beijing. This is the best chance you can find some unusual items. More and more people are interested in old cameras over the years.:p

Some images of last April fair in Wukesong, Beijing. People came from all over the country, and some even came from foreign countries.:D

Cheers,

Zhang
