I think I know the answer to this, but thought id see what the forum had to say.

I have a CLE with the 40mm sum-c, 90mm elmar-c and new 28mm elmarit. I'm thinking about investing in an M6 + 50mm summicron, and use the other 2 existing lenses. Does anyone think the images are likely to be any better with the M6/50mm compared to the CLE / 40mm assuming the same user (me)? I like the idea of having a classic Leica, but if it is unlikely to produce any better images than the CLE, it's just not worth it. What do you all think? Thanks.

You are the one how creating photos and not the camera.....sum-c is very nice lens and probably you will not see any diference between sum 50 and sum 40. (maybe only if you make enlargment of 1m×1m)

My answer is NO...m6 will not produce better pictures than CLE but maybe with m6 you will be more "into" and be more motivated to shoot...but it is all up to you.

the m6 is a nicer camera, it feels and sounds much better ... so maybe this influences your pictures. if it doesn't, you won't see any diffences :)

As I'm sure you perfectly know, you won't make any better photo's with an M6/50 Cron combo. The difference is about handling and a more reliable meter, presuming yours is still working. But as I understand it, it seems you're willing to trade in or sell your CLE + 40. That's roughly speaking some $1000 or a little more. Exactly the price of an M6. And then you plan to spend on a 50 Cron, which is at least another $1000 more, unless you go for a rigid or a DR. So why not do it the other way round and buy that M6 first (or get one loaned) to see if you like it? It'll be easier to sell the M6 again than buying back your first setup.

Also, though I've never personally tried it, there are a lot of members that like the 40 so much they even call it the best kept secret Leica lens...

Perhaps I'm slightly wrong on prices as I live in Europe, but not too far off I guess.

Nescio

Since you're kind of covered with 25ishmm and 28mm on the CLE, you might want to look at one of the M6 TTL or M7 .85 veiwfindered Leica's. This would cover you for 35mm/50mm/75mm/135mm that you don't get with the CLE?
