Comparing 35mm Lenses: Would you be interested?

There are four gentlemen whose lenses I have not received yet.
Please send any lenses you are counting on being part of this test project ASAP so that I don't have to postpone the testing. Once started, I do not think that I can go back and take the same photos again.

If you have changed your mind, this if OK, but please send me a pm about it.

Thanks!

Michel,

Thanks. This will be useful information to which all interested RFF members could contribute as prices change over time.

Today I received a parcel from Bill (in CT). Thanks!
Also, I need to pick up a parcel from USPS tomorrow.
It looks as if we are getting close to a starting day soon.

I am exited!
My wife asked me last evening whether I really enjoyed such lens comparisons and also why I did them.

My wife asked me last evening whether I really enjoyed such lens comparisons and also why I did them.

What did you answer?

Frank: I answered what comes straight from the heart; that I really enjoy such activities and that many nice people really seem to be enjoying them too. Then I may have said something like "more people have seen my lens comparisons than my published articles". I am not sure about the last claim, but it made my point.

I am targeting coming Monday or Tuesday for the lens testing. Fred, Roland and Rico already have informed me that they are sending (have sent) their lenses, so the list is about complete, except for maybe one or two volunteers from whom I have not heard yet. Maybe I am wrong here, and the list is complete!

This is a wonderful group project that is unique by having so many RFF members give temporarily up their valued lenses. This way, we all will have a chance to see side by side images taken the same way with the same camera and same film and developed and scanned by the same machine.
It is not a perfect methodolgy, but then again, who/what is perfect?

I am in the middle of writing up an article with a 3pm deadline (Portugal midnight?) for some conference, and this is my brief coffee break at work.

I will recruit my daughter Dana as the "model" for part of the tests.

Raid, thanks so much for taking on such a project. I can tell it will be no quick and easy task, and I really appreciate you taking the time to do this for all of us!

Thanks, Alan. Once I complete grading the final exams papers for my students and have handed in all grades, I can start this project as I will have one week off work. I have many parcels stacked up in my office room at home, and I will open these parcels and take out the lenses very soon. Then, a family photo of the lenses is next in line.

Update: Today I have received a 35mm Summicron Version 3. Thanks Rico! There now are quite a few parcels here beside me. I dread the idea of taking all these parcels to a post office later on.

I can't wait to start seeing the results Raid. Thanks again for doing this for us and to everyone that is loaning him a lens!!!

I am awaiting lenses from Roland and Fred any day now, and the fun will start. I will try to take some sharp photos of the lenses together.

update: I have received a parcel sent by Roland. Thanks.
One more parcel left, and then I can start.

I am pleased to announce that Fed's parcel is safe with me! I have received a great collection of lenses for the upcoming testing from many RFF contributors that must be thanked.

Goal: I am aiming at coming Tuesday to get my first testing done.

I still need to unpack the lenses and to document who sent me which lens or camera and so on. There will be lens hoods and lens caps in some cases and more often not so.

Wish me success.

Hi, Raid!

Wow, fascinating results!
I like to do lens test with my DSLR. This is a lot of work, but performing all these tests on film is incredible!
Well done!

Hello Kent: I still have to do the testing, but I have in the past done similar tests for 50mm and medium tele lenses. This test will include lenses with focal length 35mm-40mm. Having your DSLR would have made the testing easier and less expensive, but then again, it would be digital!:D

Thank you,Magus. I took some snapshots of the lenses together, along with the Bessa that Mark sent me to use with the non-LTM lenses. I am not an expert at photogenic artistic photos of lenses. These are just to give you a first look at the lenses.

I unpacked the parcels last night, and I wrote up a report on the lenses and the camera that were sent to me. Now, they are sitiing in front o fme, and I am getting used to them. Some look like new and a few look "vintage".

Maybe I will take other shots of the lenses but without lens caps on.
