I hadn't used my Diafine for about 6 months now. Dil A looks brown and a sludge has accumulated at the bottom. Dil B is yellowish. I just souped a roll of Plus-X rated at 400 in it - 4 mins in each solution, with minimal agitation. The resultant roll I got was completely clear - no pictures, nothing at all. What gives??? Is it time to throw away my Diafine and start again?

I think it died. Mine did exactly the same, and I definitely did not accidentally fix first. Same colour by the sounds of it too.

A previous roll came out a bit muddy, looking rather lifeless for want of a better description, then the last roll was blank. Good job it was an experimental roll.

I am ditching mine before my next use. My current batch is at least 2 YO right now, time to mix a new one.

Clear as in no image, or clear as in nothing at all, even edge markings? If no edge markings, then no development. I've heard of people using 5 year old Diafine (with which ever bath necessary getting replinished now and then, but for volume, not development capacity) so I doubt it's the developer, to be honest. Are you sure you put the developer in first?

My first batch of Diafine did exactly the same after 18 months. I haven't gotten around to replacing it yet.

No markings whatsoever, just completely clear negatives. It was clear it wasn't developed at all. And yes, I'm not a newbie to development, I label all my bottles clearly, and I did not make any silly mistakes. That's why I was surprised it was completely clear. I just wonder whether it was possible the developer wasn't stored properly, hence its exhaustion. It's nearly 24 months old. I did think, however, that Diafine lasted longer!
