Contax G2 Defective?

Hi,

I am new to shooting film and this is my first film camera. I've bought the Contax G2 on ebay from a seller in China. So I've put the battery in the camera and then the film strip. I turned it on set it to auto and single auto focus. I had it set to AF DX and it showed on the LCD screen. Then I wanted to play around with the ISO and when pressing the button he ISO popped up on the LCD screen. But when trying to set it a second time, my ISO button no longer functions. The ISO doesn't show up in the LCD but only says AF DX. I tried turning the focus dial while holding the ISO button and then I looked thought the viewfinder and I saw the display in green and it was blinking and very blurry. I ended up setting it to 400 and then the LCD no longer says AF DX but just AF. Then the ISO button no longer worked when I clicked on it. And I can't even take a picture with the shutter and I cannot press halfway. Is this normal???

Hi Jumjum. I think you might want to read the manual on this one. The G2 can be fairly complicated when it comes to changing setting. For instance, you have to hold a button for a few seconds for it to become 'operative'. If you didn't get a manual with it, have a look at the famous Butkus site (google Butkus).

Thanks all for your reply but I actually do have a manual and followed all the steps. It told me to hold the ISO button for 1.5 seconds or more and the ISO number on the LCD should start blinking and then I can change it but nothing pops up.. Maybe I should bring it to a repair place for them to check? But I also may be doing something wrong.. But I did follow all the steps 😕

Update

After a few days. Now my ISO button seems to be working fine and the display seems to be better. Is it possible when a camera hasn't been in use the functions become "rusty" and then after a few uses they come back to normal?
