Folks,
I want to get a cable release for my Canon IVsb. The garden variety(cheap) ones won't work. But I've seen some marked "for Nikon and old Leica" that are the right type at least--female threads at the end to go over the shutter button--and I note that B&H or Adorama sell new Nikon AR-2(?) cable releases.
Will these fit? Or do I need to find a vintage Canon release?

That type of release is fully standardized, and will work fine on your Canon IVSb.
Thanks, John!
I hoped that was the case but some of these "compatible" accessories aren't quite so I wanted to be sure before I spent money and time getting one.

I cna confrm that. I have such a cable release which works with various early NIkon SLRs and (when the collar surrounding the shutter button unscrewed) the Canon Rangefinders - at least the early chrome ones. Not sure about the later ones.

HI, Most of the shutter guards of the bottom loading Canon rangefinder cameras don’t have to be removed except for the model IIB and previous models. This is one reason why the shutter guard is missing on some cameras. The introduction of the “flared” shutter guard made it possible to fit the Canon cable release (not sure about other makes) without removing it.

Good to know! Thanks.
