I read somebody say "the specific 50mm Planar characteristics" ...
can somebody explain or show me the 'specific 50mm Planar characteristics' ?

IMO the deal with the planar is it never steps out of line.
I think with both the 50 planar and the 50 summicron, pictures just look the way they are supposed to.

From the examples people have thrown up, the Planar seems razor sharp.

This photo had something familiar about it, so I had to check the DOF-samples near the bottom of this page again:

Is this the same location? Did you shoot / write the lens review, or is this just a coincidence?
Just curious...

Always looking
I put mine on eBay at the weekend for a reasonable BIN price and it was snapped up within 5 mins. The Zeiss is rather special but was too front heavy for my CL, so I got a 40mm Rokkor 2.

Here's another one:

Don't know what happened, wether it was the backlight or the film (BW 400CN), but I really love the rendering in this picture...

To Light & Love ...
what I find so Interesting about the planar is its rendering can be EVER so Sharp edge to edge
or just very Sharp dead center and Beautiful Soft OOF
almost like a Sonnar Glow
I suppose that has quite a bit to do with which Film, iso & developer
but its still Quite Magical in its various Modes

I'm finding the Planar very quickly becoming my favourite lens - i thought it would be too sharp, too clinical, too flat, too little bokeh, when compared to my Nokton/1.1, but it's very usable, has lovely OOF rendering and the sharpness wide open is outstanding!!
For soft, low light, shots where a more dreamy feel is needed, I'll easily use my 1.1, but the Zeiss is an excellent day-to-day lens, especially at half the weight and a closer focus distance.
Planar feels like a great pair with the sharp M8, whereas the Nokton/1.1 a better pair with my M6/M2 + TriX.

For comparison, here's the same subject (a year earlier) with the M6/50/1.1/TriX combo at minimum focal distance, wide open, followed by this year's shot with the M8/50/2/Planar.
I think both are great, but with their own character.
