crumpler question

Hey Joe, Vistek has a big selection of Crumpler bags. You can go try them out. I really like the new stylings of the Lowpro bags too.

that's what got me started, looking at the vistek site earlier.
i have decided to keep 2 separate rd1 kits, one body, 3 lenses in each kit, but i need another smaller bag. i like the domke 5xb but wanted to change things up a bit and try another brand.

You should look into the Million Dollar Home series - a 3 or 4 Million Dollar Home would be a good start.

I have the 7 MDH bag, it fits the following:

5D w/ grip and 24-70mm lens
70-200mm L IS
16-36mm L
580EX flash

and room for more....

For your needs to carry an RF body and 3 lenses, I can't see you needing anything beyond 5.

Not much good to you out west, but there's a Crumpler store on Queen West in Toronto that, for obvious reasons, has a great selection.

Joe - check out the Urban Disguise line of bags.

I've had the UD 30 for a while, and it's a great small bag for camera gear, film and other things, like a book, notebook, bottled water and personal effects... It looks small but you'd be amazed by how much you can fit in there.

I just got a larger UD 35 today for my DSLR/laptop -- again a smallish looking bag that will actually hold a DSLR a 70-200mm zoom, a couple of other lenses and a laptop.

5 Million Dollar Home will be more close to the bill, 6 & 7 million are getting closer to a bit too large personally.

To put it in perspective, the 5 million can be divided into about three discrete parts (Only two if you put an DSLR with lens attached though), while the 6 million goes up to about 4 parts & the 7 million goes up to about 5 & has depth to go higher.

Also, make sure they're the NEW ones, they've changed a lot now & are much, much, much better than they used to be. The new ones have a velcro silencer & double buckles, the old only have 1 buckle.

I'd check out the Aus site so you can see all the latest models & what they hold

Here Joe, I just took a quick snapshot for you. Maybe this will help you out.

That is my 5MDH with my M6 and 40/1.4 in there. The camera and lens take up less than half the inside compartment. I can also fit my Hasselblad and light meter in there along with several rolls of film.

The 6MDH jumps up quite a bit in size, so in my opinion, the 5MDH is the biggest of the portable, walkaround Crumpler camera bags. I have two 7MDH bags, one of which is always preloaded with three or four lenses, a DSLR (two if I really cram it in), two flashes, and swamp water of cords and batteries and adapters. The 6MDH bag isn't that much smaller than the 7MDH.

But I do love Crumpler bags. I own five! 😀

thanks derrick.
i plan on keeping the rd1 with lens attached and 2 more lenses in the bag. a couple of extra batteries and sd cards, cloth and that's pretty much it.
in truth the domke 5xb is perfect but, like i said before, i just want a change.
the crumpler 5 looks good.

by the way, i have 5 domkes...

In that case, the 5MDH is more than enough. That's almost exactly what I usually keep in mine: M6 with lens mounted, plus 2 more lenses and aux finders, and 4-6 rolls of film. Even with all that stuff, there's enough room to put in a snack bar or two for longer outings.

I had the six and gave it away to a friend who now uses it to carry around his D700...

The thing was to big and uncomfortable .... I carry a bag everywhere ,the six was just to bulky .... I really like and use the Artisan & Artist bags ....

with some hesitation, i went with the crumpler 5 this afternoon.

it was not love at first site and i may just get another domke 5xb down the road. but it's ok and i may grow into it as i use it.
the first thing i noticed when walking with it is that the clip straps hit the bag and make a noise as i walk. i doubt that i would keep them both locked while shooting so i may just cut them off and stick with the velcro alone.
i like that it's a bit wider than the 5xb, the rd1 with lens and hood glides into and out of the bag easier and that's a good thing.
