Remember when we pay $600 for Photoshop, we are paying $400 for our share of the development and support cost for our copy.
And each of us is paying an additional $200 to cover those same costs for Bill Roberts, cmdrzed, colyn, danielmk2, forsakenrider, jarski, Mablo, MaxFrank, meso, Tadhgo and other people who did not pay theirs.
When we pay $150 for Lightroom, whether direct purchase or bundled in the price of a M9, we are paying about $100 for our share of the costs plus another $50 for cmdrzed, colyn, forsakenrider, haempe, karlori, MaxFrank, rxmd, Travis L. who did not pay their share.
Thanks to all of you who were honest and help pay your share. Those who did not should not ever expect me to do anything for them.
edit: The lesson is to save confession for church. Don't add your name to a public list of people who took things without paying.
Did you read any of the posts here ?

I simply cut and pasted the names of those who voted on the poll "Did you pay for your Photoshop/Lightroom or download it illegally?" who indicated they did not pay for their copy.
Dear Bob,
before you go on behaving like a dork in your attempt at public humiliation, at least read post #10 and ask for a better worded poll. Thank you.
Best,
rxmd
Edit: No matter who confesses what in church, it's pretty low of you to write up others' names for public humiliation and then claim the moral high ground. Double minus points for taking the extra time looking up their member page URLs, while failing to do a fact check.

Yeah, except that the question was not whether they downloaded it illegally, but whether they paid for it or not, which can be done perfectly legally. You are so much of a better person for your attempt to shame others, while being too lazy (sorry, but that's what it is) to look at what is actually the case. Have a cookie.

I didn't pay for Photoshop or Lightroom licences either - largely because I don't use them. Happily I don't need to, and in any case my main pc runs Linux.

In the case of Photoshop or Lightroom "free" is not the same as "stole it". All people still working on a school supplied educational version and all people using bundled software did not pay. Given that even many paid owners (including me) don't consider upgrades desirable and that Photoshop is part of the curriculum in just about every arts and graphics school, there must be oodles of these about.
And in our community we have lots of LR bundle owners, who'll have checked "didn't pay" as well - only the most absent minded among the M8/M9 users will accidentally have paid for a second copy of their Lightroom, as they already got one for free with their camera...

I didn't pay for mine. My employer did.
Posting names is pretty low without reading the full thread. I do not expect to see my name on the list

I got my Photoshop CS5 suite through my girlfriend's employer's mass distribution license (an art academy), Lightroom came with her Leica. So no, I never paid for it

oh but guess you already did ? you probably plan follow up the vote and add new names to your shame list, in case someone is still foolish enough to vote ?

I suggest those of you who voted erroneously in the poll "Did you pay for your Photoshop/Lightroom or download it illegally?" get your names deleted.
I feel strongly about software piracy. I have invested my time and money in software / software technology companies. I own a small amount of Adobe (and Microsoft as well) currently. As such I have paid for all the software I have ever had on my computer since 1985. It is not an academic or philosophical issue for me. It is part of my money.

Paid. I'm a full time visual designer. I make living with what I create using the tools like Photoshop. You wouldn't rob a carpenter and steal tools to build your house, would you?
No I wouldn't but I would shop around for the best value for money. Much software is way to expensive which encourages piracy. If these companies pitched them at a reasonable price (like the apple app store does for many apps) then they would sell more. I understand that many app developers have sold millions of their 99cent app. Apple OS X is very low priced compared with Windows and makes it cost effective to upgrade.
I love Lightroom and purchased the latest LR4 with gift vouchers so the price didn't worry me, it would be even better if it was less than 50 dollars.

I suggest that you just man up already and admit that it was not the high point of your character to draw up public shame lists.
In particular those based on the question "I did not pay for X", when there are lots of legitimate reasons not to pay for X.
If you feel so strongly about software piracy that you publicly label those pirates who use trial versions and use the licenses provided to them by their employers, you have other problems than software piracy.

I'd suggest to you to edit /remove the names out of your post.
Again you post without taking time to read the posts that were posted prior to your self-righteous delivery of justice.
I did not and will not pay for software that costs more than my gear, I source them from institutions i am a part of or get them from my employers or project founders, I myself own a small business and have all the software licensed and legal.
I gave my PSE licenses I've come to acquire for free to my friends who are not financially able to afford overpriced software so a few shareholders can justify their portfolio of shares they own.

It is unfortunate that you did not fully understand the poll. Again, I suggest that you get your name removed.

Oh yes, you did label a lot of people. What do you think your addendum "Thanks to all of you who were honest and help pay your share. Those who did not should not ever expect me to do anything for them" is, if not a label? Just an innocent little addendum to a list that just so happens to imply dishonesty on the part of everybody listed by name? Playing with words a little bit? You're not making this any better at all.
Sorry, Bob, the problem here is not that someone answered a poll question that they understood differently from you. The problem is that you for whatever reason put up your little public shame board in the first place. That IS low, no matter what.

All mine are kosher.
Do I regard Adobe as honest, upstanding, decent, fair people? Well, certainly not all four at once.
But I would find it hard to steal even from people I despise, and 'despise' is too harsh for much of Adobe (though not necessarily their legal department).
Cheers,
R.

Call me a fool, paid for my PSE and Nikon Capture 2. If you can afford to pay why not. If you can't afford to pay you do what you have to do. People generally have as many or as few morals as they can afford.
