die letzen 999 m6

Magus--

I thought you'd appreciate my M6TTL & MP compare, and, yes! No nasty zinc. I'm starting to think that Leica WANTS to keep some mystery surrounding the composition of the 999...Not sure why...

Anyway, My guess is you'll love the big wheel, and hate the finder--I'd never had noticed (the finder) as much unless I had an MP and the other RF’s to compare to, but it is a giant difference--It does not happen all the time, but under adverse conditions, it rear's it's ugly head like spitting Medusa.

Regarding the extra height: The BP MP I have looks longer (wider) and shorter (height) --at the same time it looks smaller and less noticeable, and more concealable--all positives for me, but I think it just appears more smaller & innocuous than it really is, because of the black paint.

It definitely looks less noticeable than the chrome M6TTL, which is a very beautiful and classic looking camera on it's own merits.

What I try to say is: It has a very different look, but not a terribly different feel--to me anyway. And what feels different, actually adds to handling. If anything, it feels like the extra height & the big ss dial actually work very well together. While the shorter MP and smaller dial also seem to gel just as well.

I really am impressed with both--once the finder's replaced on the M6 TTL, it will loose it's inferiority complex...! Do you happen to know if the Passport Warranty covers finder replacement? I don’t think I will be able to wait for a cla. I will be looking into this tonight…

I have had a M6TTL since just before the 999 series came out, should have waited a month or so. Mine is the .85 finder, and it did flare sometmies, but not that bad, as all you have to do is move your eye around to make sure it is centered. I did get teh MP finder installe dand fixed the problem completely.

As to height of the camera, give me a break, I could not even tell unless I put it aside another earlier M, and then the difference is not worth bothering about.

The Shutter dial? I love the larger correct turning dial as it works with the meter better. I hated the older small dial and was the reason I dumped my M3 My hands could not grip it it was so small.

When they are sitting side by side, it is subtle, but the extra 3mm on the M6 makes the MP look lean and mean (long, rectangular), while the M6 (mine's chrome) looks more square & boxy-if that makes sense. Again, it may be the black paint, and or my preception, and you are right, it's no bother at all...

More great news. This morning I e-mailed Leica about the finder. I got a swift reply. Magus --you nailed it: They said it's a 'tweak' to the MP &M7 VF, NOT a defect on the M6TTl...The great news: The shop manager agreed to absorb the cost of the parts, and only charge me labor about 75 USD...It's in the mail already...Very impressive (at least I am very impressed).

One more thing: The film speed dial. The M6TTL dial is easier to use. It's indices match up better, it is metal, and has a push in & turn action that is more positive. Compared to the M6TTL, the FSD on the MP feels crude.

Don't get me wrong, these are very, very minor annoyances, and at this level of quality, you have to search for them. I'll let you all know how the improved finder works when I get the M6TTL back.

I am not sure I totally get this reference...But I have seen it before. Are you saying my m6 is the spawn of satan? Well she's at Leica now for a VF replacement. I'll call tomorrow to see if they can throw in an Exercisism...

Well , it's been two weeks without the M6. I received an estimate yesterday from Leica--another 5-6 weeks turn-around time! ( I guess this is the indusrty standard for other companies--but Leica?) I am not a patient man! What am I going to do...?
