Digital Holga?

That's ludicrous ... a Holga is a Holga. That's just a particuarly nasty little point and shoot that has no right to be labeled as something else! :p

Why not? 20 megapixels @ $200.

Well, it's about a realistic as some people's digital RF fantasies...

Actualy, "digital Holgas" are called "cheap camera 'phones."

Cheers,

R.

Seriously though ... these things are coming from this Asian (China or Taiwan?) manufacturer who somehow got the right to market their rubbish as 'Yashica!' They also have a few point and shoot film cameras listed! :D

Better they would revive digital Electro 35, problem would be sensor size to match DOF of ancestor.

But Roger....it's gotta have the cheap Holga look. Them cell phones are way to high tech looking for me :)

That might actually be a good donor to hack into a digital module for a Leica M camera. Seems there are not too many buttons involved and there is no shutter connected to the circuitry. Would probably only allow for shutter speed like 1/30th or slower to expose the whole sensor, but that could be manageable! Guess I will get me one and see what I can hack it into...

nasty nasty, I just bought it after I read the lens screws off...
all kind of experimental fun for a $100.00, watch out M9 I'm coming at ya ;)

All I read was that the lens turns slightly to engage 'macro' mode. I did not read that it was removable. And even if it was (or could be hacksawed off), with what would you replace it? Based on the sensor size, any lens designed for a 35mm camera is going to have a monstrous crop factor.

bmattock, on the Japan exposure site he says the lens is screw mounted and removable, look at the photos of the camera. I have a zillion ideas what I would replace the lens with, the root of creativity is experimentation, some can not see this and go take flower pictures ;)
Seriously I have a large collection of Large format lens and other optical devices that will provide me with hours of fun... for a $100 bucks, it ain't just perfectly focused photo documentation i bought this gadget for...

Photony ... where on the site does it say that ... I can't spot it?

I don't see that. Can you give me a link? I see this:

http://www.japanexposures.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=349

It doesn't say anything about a screw-mounted lens that I can see. I did a google search, found a couple references to people who claimed that someone else told them it was removable, but nothing to point to anyone with evidence of that being true.

I'm all for experimentation, I stick copier lenses on my camera bodies to see what they'll do. If this lens is removable, I think that's cool. I just don't see where it says that, and I was pointing out that with the smaller sensor, the crop factor will be gigantic.

No no no no no. Where's the light falloff (also mistaken for "vignetting")?

And how long until some clueless blogger starts comparing it to a dSLR?

From the site in question:

Fixed-focus lens / glass layer 1 layer of plastic +3
F3.0, f = 7.0mm (35mm camera equivalent 42.53mm)

Unless "fixed" is the new "screw off"

it's a freakin toy man...a poor mans M9...just for fun all
go to the Home page and click review
From the Japan Exposures site quote "There does not seem an actual shutter rather than the exposures done by the sensor. Since the lens is screwed onto the body from the front, there might be some hacking potential by replacing the lens with something else, if you are so inclined."
I am inclined to have fun ;)
