I post on Aminus3.com, a great international photo blog, with a super easy interface. Posting images here is a HUGE hassle. You can't just upload from home. Instead, you have to post on flickr, then size it, then hit properties to coax out the URL, then drop it into an advanced pop-up window. What a total friggin' pain. And all this on a photo forum which should have a more streamlined system.

while i am shy and do have confidence issues, i still post some of my photos in threads. i dont bother with the gallery as i use other sites for that kind of thing and the gallery requires me to have more confidence in my photos....

To post bigger pics in RFF threads, the image has to be hosted on another website and then you just link it in the RFF thread.

Here's how you do it. If you have a website for your photos, or you have photos on a photo sharing site, go to that site and go to the page where the big version of the photo is at.

Right click the image, and a menu will come up. Depending on what browser you use, there will be a choice in that menu that says something like "Copy image address" or "Copy image location". Choose that option.

Then, come back to RFF, and in the thread you want to put the picture in, choose the picture icon from the buttons above the place where you type in text. A box will appear asking for the picture's URL. Paste in the image location you copied on your website. When you submit the post, the image will appear in the post.[/

Thank you Chris. FLICKR made some changes to downloading the URL for images a while back and I was unable to find a work around. Your "how to" worked perfectly.

I'd love to post photos, but a lot of my images are on Tumblr and the links keep changing every week, so what shows on a web link this week will be broken by the next.

Not very active, but I don't post photo's for several reasons:
- about 90% of the photo's I take have no interest to anyone outside the family as they are little more than souvenirs.
- I'm too lousy a photographer to show any other the other 10%.
- the hassle to get them on the net certainly isn't worth it.

I'm more interested in the camera's than the photo's. But I do use them regulary. However most of it is just snapshots during trips, family gatherings etc. There is nothing there of any value to show someone that wasn't there at the moment I took them.

Then the few that are presentable just never get processed. It's too much of a hassle to scan and proces them to get just have them on the pc. Then you can put them on the net and what? They get removed because nobody looks at them :p I don't think there is anything lost.

OK, I just posted a few photos in the gallery for the first time. Between uploading and resizing, it took about 5 minutes per image but I'm probably slower than most. Sorry if any have already been in W/NW in the past. I'll see how it goes and if it proves to be more worthwhile than putting them on APUG like I sometimes do, maybe I'll switch to here.

Thanks, Chris. I think I tried this before with flickr, but somehow couldn't get it to work. Guess I'll try it again: ...

Nope. I don't have that picture icon above the text entering window to start with (I'm using Firefox)...

There isn't one in this thread. Some forums on RFF don't have the functionality to post pictures linked from other sites. I don't know why that is, maybe the mods can tell us? In the critique forums, you can post pics the way I wrote about.

Making a run through thirty pages of the week of gallery posts is difficult on a Monday. I have only recently contributed to this and I have set up a text file which consists of a column of recurring lines of [IMG/], an extra space left for easier insertion.

When I see a picture I want to pick I open my generic file and save it as weekly picks for that week. Then I copy the image address, paste it into the dialog box called up by the image insert icon above the quick reply pane of a second browser window, select all, copy and cancel and then paste this in the space between the two square brackets in my text file, closing up the extra space, and adding the name of the photographer and the title. I can add to this progressively over the weekend. When the thread starts on Monday (Tuesday here in Melbourne) I can call up the file, copy all and paste and it's done. I do then check for bad syntax where a bracket might have gone missing.

I've posted a few but not many for a while. I've posted 5 today - though I'm not 100% sure they're all in the correct galleries. I posted according to genre, then realised a few were in some sort of competition galleries. Oh well, I doubt any will test the scorers....!!
