There are a couple of helpful threads explaining several ways to put photos into forum posts in the RFF Help forum here: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=190

And also threads about using the Gallery.

This Help Forum is dedicated solely to assistance with using RFF.

My photos never seem to make it onto the web in general. I on occasion pop some on my site but never got into the routine of it.
Was a new years resolution to share more of my photos but so far i haven't had the best year of photography with broken cmaers and the likes.

I try to post a few here, but I'm more likely to post to Flickr because it's so much easier to post there - I spend way too much time trying to get the size right to post here...flickr is a snap...plus you can upload to many sites with apps like LYN (mac only for now) which make it super easy to select, set size parameters and upload...bing!

It would be a great feature to add that to the upload scheme here!!!

Can you please tell me how to resize an image on here? I am so frustrated because I am trying to upload images and they blow up much too large.

Here is an example:
http://stillthrill.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/image_.jpg

What sort of parameters can I pass into the IMG HTML element to make it within 500px wide?

Also, if the moderator is listening, why not have responsive HTML and CSS where the thread automatically resizes the images to your screen? (Use flexbox, its amazingly easy!!!). Oh - and don't worry about supporting IE 7 or 8, just leave them in the dust and force people to migrate :).

Posting in the gallery is fine, but posting in threads is PAINFUL. I still haven't been able to do it. Flickr accounts, links etc. what a hassle when you just want to attach a small file!

It's easy. If you post in the gallery & want to post in a thread (remember some threads you can't post links) open up the photo & just left click & copy then go to the thread you wish to add the photo & paste. On Flickr I just grab the bb code, copy & paste in the color box that says "insert image". Just be aware that when you copy your link in the bar that the http that originally comes up, you need to erase it out. You don't want to see http twice. You can hit preview to erase all the wording that comes up with your photo, then submit. At least thats how it works on my computer & I'm running an old one.

No! I run IE8 & don't plan on buying another computer anytime soon. Why don't you use software where you can resize your photo in. I use PS6, very easy.

I beg of you... get rid of IE8...

You don't have to buy another computer!! Its as easy as going to the below link:

https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/

There's also FireFox. What OS and version do you use?

Please pardon my emotions about this, but IE7 and IE8 are the bane of my existence. They are terrible browsers that don't support anything interesting about the web.

Think about it this way, you want to develop a website but because people are still using older browsers, you have to instead build two websites - one for everyone else using Chrome, FireFox, and IE9+ then another for IE7 and IE8. And the IE7 & IE8 Website takes 3x as long to build as the others and won't even support the cool features you want to build.

The fact that so many people use IE8 is basically holding up innovation in the web world.

For me, RFFM and Flickr have different, but complementary, strengths so I move between the two.

RFFM is my entry point for finding, not only threads on topics of existing interest to me, but also serendipitous appearance of any other topics that grab my attention. Whereas, with Flickr, navigation starts with pictures related to groups, themes or photographers that I am already aware of.

I upload pictures to Flickr, as it is easier just to upload whatever size of file comes from the scan, or camera, and then if I link to RFFM I can choose the size that is consistent with others in the thread, and respectful of viewers' scrolling 'bandwidth'.
If I see a picture on RFFM that I want to comment on, if it's from Flickr I'm more likely to follow it there to comment, rather than quoting a repeat copy of the image. And, on Flickr the picture has its own thread all in one place, rather than possibly being interspersed with other topics.

I use Flickr, and will continue to do so indefinitely even though they keep changing it. I try to minimize the total number of places on the web I keep my stuff, so will not use the RFF galleries. Love the discussions here though.

Thanks, I will try this!

LOL. My workplace still insists on IE6! Take that, innovation!

On topic, I don't post many photos in the gallery - just ones I'm happy for people to peruse and comment on. I use Flickr for linked photos because then I don't need to worry about some nonsense shot of the inside of my camera being headlined in the gallery by the random monkeys!

And I am still learning, so work I am happy to "publish" doesn't turn up every day.

I post my images on the image threads for a specific lens

Most of my lens purchase decisions were made after I go through all the images in a thread for a particular lens and I hope some of my images may help others in the same coin

Always good to get feedback - positive and negative (if constructive)

I don't really post my photos online anymore. I'm working on a few long term projects and randomly posting on the internet has been an empty experience for the most part. Maybe once I'm finished with something, I'll revisit posting on the internet.

I find the size limiting. I don't want to have to export a photo three different times from LR in three different sizes just to post one here. If I can't get my 900px image to fit here, then it doesn't get uploaded.
