Now I am using it with film M but not digital, so they're about the same size in hand.

I don't have a digital M but I like half cases. Not at all worried about rapid film changes as that's not the way I shoot.

David, I agree with you - no case.
I think I did use one on my first Retina (can't really remember 'cause I was 13 in 1949) but never on my M's. They feel just right bare naked.

I just bought an M9 and got a Luigi case and thumbs up. I had a Zhou case for the m8 and while functional and great for the price, was very stiff and hid more than I liked. Given the price of this camera only you can know if protecting it is worth it to you. The thumbs up increases security a great deal by itself while holding.

I'm using neoprene case for transportation. I can put the cam in any bag with it.

Tried Luigi's case, Mr. Zhou's, etc. but abandoned them. They're nice, but they change the dimensions and feel of the body. Naked camera feels best to me when shooting.

I used a M. Zhou half-case with my R-D1 :
But more and more often I use a "Black Rapid" R-strap camera sling system instead of the neck strap (specially for street photo).
This system use the screw place under the camera, then I don't want to make an hole in the leather half-case, because I'm not sure to make something clean; so I don't use the half-case very often now.

I have been photographing for lots of years. I have tried to use a case or half case several different times and after about two exposures took the case off in frustration. They were just in the way as far as I am concerned. I couldn't feel the camera. I use either a camera strap or wrist strap for a safety strap to prevent me dropping the camera accidently if I am not using a tripod. Jim
