Does anyone ALWAYS has a camera with them?

Does anyone here ALWAYS have a camera with them? (I'm talking about a proper camera, not an iPhone or cellphone.)

For example, when you go for a walk to your corner convenience store, or go to gas up your car, do you have a camera on your person?

If yes, what are the details? Such as, what kind of camera, how do you carry it (bag, strap, or in pocket) etc?

I've been thinking about trying that, but my current rig (DSLR) seems a little too bulky and heavy.

maybe not always-always, but like 90% of time outside my flat, yes, I have a camera with me... it's usually m6+35 'lux, and on occasion E-P1+17mm pancake... usually with strap wrapped around my wrist. The only problem with this is that you have to give yourself some time to learn not to burn film and shoot everything that seems interesting at the time 🙂 took me about 20 rolls...or a month in "people's time" 🙂

I have a Rollei 35 which travels most places I go in my bike tank bag , and usually gets crammed in a pocket if I'm out and about ,and if I'm going anyway 'out' as a trip I always take the Leica , but this is someway short of ALWAYS carrying a camera. The only thing I ALWAYS have on me is the iphone !

I take a camera with me all the time.
If it's not my M4-P, I'll grab my GRD-2 since it fits in my pocket.
When I had my IIIf I carried it at all times, I would have added a 50/3.5 elmar to make it that much more portable.
I agree with JSU without a camera you are merely a spectator.

I've carried the M9 pretty much 100% since April.

The Lumix LX3 fell just below the threshold for a "proper" camera, though it's fine for most of what I shoot.

Typically carry in a small Domke bag, but more often now just the camera w/ a 35 or 50mm.

If I don't have a small camera bag with me (I irrationally take it to work daily though I have yet to use it there), I typically have the XA4 with me. I goes in a jacket packet easily enough... jacket weather is much of the year in Seattle.

I've carried a camera daily since early 2003. Before that I was shooting every day but due to work restrictions I couldn't carry a camera with me there.
What I currently carry is an M9 or an M8, either with a 35mm lens. Sometimes I'll go out with just a 21mm lens. Now that I have the M9, I find myself carrying a 50mm more often than in the cropped sensor days. If I'm not carrying one of those two cameras, I have an M4 with a 35 f/3.5 Summaron that I will take along.

Used to. IIIa with 50/3.5. Eventually gave up. I really miss it very seldom at the shops, etc.

Most of the time. On too many occasions when I don't have one, I find myself wishing I did. Its usually something small that will fit in coat pocket; Canon Canonet, Vito B, or sometimes a folder.
I recently went to a lecture by retired Canadian photojournalist Ted Grant. He said he always had a camera with him because one of these days there was going to be an earthquake in British Columbia and he didn't want to miss it( he had an M8 over the shoulder for the lecture). He related one occasion when he did go to the grocery store without it, we had a mini quake, and all he could think about was --"I forgot my camera!"

I used to follow the advice touted in the photographic press / books some years ago to always have a camera with you, but found that I rarely used it.

Yes. Normally it is an M7 with a 28, 35 or 50mm lens.

Point and shoot in my bag every work day. Hardly use it except for technical things at work since the iPhone. Leica and one lens, usually 50 or 35 Summicron for campactness most work days and whenever I am out in the daytime at the weekend. Neck strap round the wrist. Wife almost never vetoes me bringing it. I will never quite understand.

I always have my Agfa Optima Sensor, it's a scale focus p+s that makes some great photos. I usually have a second camera as well depending on what I feel like that day. I have the luxury of being a stay at home dad in Paris, so I always need a bag with me (for diapers and snacks) which makes it easy to carry, but I also always have tonnes to take pictures of. I find I end up usually taking at least one or two pics each day, but somedays I'll take tons and there have even been a few where I take none (like today as a matter of fact).

As for the dslr, I rarely take mine with me anymore as it's pretty bulky and heavy, and assuming my daughter is riding on my shoulders, I need to keep the load light...

I always carry a 35mm camera, no matter what. You never know what you might find that won't be around long enough to go home for a camera. I have a Domke F-803 bag that I bought new in Santa Fe 4 years ago and its all worn and beatup looking now. I carry a 35mm body, either a Leica M6, an Olympus OM-4T, or a Nikon F3 depending on what I have film in. I usually carry 28, 35, and 50mm lenses for whatever body I have on me.

I was having a camera with me fairly often when I had the Olympus XA. Since I have sold it none of my cameras were compact enough. Now I have the Fuji Silvi f2.8 zoom, but I am not sure on that one yet. I just got a Konica S3 and if I like it enough I will try to keep having it along even though it is far from truly compact and does not fit my work shoulder bag (which is a tough requirement - only cameras like GR1, TC-1 or T3 would really fit in).

Call me strange but I hesitate to use a compact digital camera for this purpose ...
