The 90 F4 Elmar will work fine on other cameras than the 'M' as a normal lightweight small lens. A very good one at that.
Using the macro creates a new set of problems though. The 'eyes'or 'specs' for use in macro mode (where the lens is mounted upside down to reveal the close up scale on the bottom) is designed to fit on the front of the Leica M such that the 'eyes' align with the vewfinder and rangefinder windows to correct the close focus RF patch and parallax information.
If the RF base is different or the VF location is slightly different the specs will not work. In theory you could use it by measuring the distance manually to se the focus but the VF might be partially obstructed on the RD-1 as I think it's position is higher than the Leica. This lens has to have the specs fitted to increase the film plane to lens distance for it to work close up.
Hope this helps.

It doesn't look like it. The "Macro Adapter" incorporates not only the viewfinder goggles, but an extension tube that makes it focus closer. Without the extension tube, you'll get only the normal range of focusing.
For anyone else who's curious about this lens (I hadn't heard of it) here's a link:

It would take some major surgery on the metal plate holding the " eyes" ,but I'm sure it could be done. On the other hand, why anyone should want to do macro with a rangefinder camera
is somewhat puzzling to me. That is an area where (D)SLR's excel and the Leica M solution can only be qualified as makeshift.
