Dual Wield Merrills?

I currently have the dp1m and the 2m. I am waiting for the price drop to get the 3m.

As much as I love my dp Merrill cameras, they would not be my only camera. The type of photos I take are just toooo varied. It has become one of my main cameras however.

I actually shoot more b&w w/ then color w/ the merrills. So long as u stay w/ in iso 320, I find the color very accurate (I just like high punchy color, so I pp it). But it can get very usable iso up to 1600 in b&w (ymmv).

If I ended up getting the dp3m I would pair in the following (main camera is always the first mentioned, other camera is in the messenger bag)
- dp1m and dp3m
- dp2m and rx100 (the rx100 is really the backup)
- dp2m and xe1 w/ 14f2.8
I also hope that sigma comes out w/ a 21 fov. I would pair it w/ the dp2m.

I mainly shoot hand held and rarely use a tripod. So getting the highest resolution out of it was never my main focus but having a camera that could get better resolution than what I already had w/ the best color and b&w pictures in a small package was my main motivation for me..

Since I don't like to change lenses in the field unless I have too... Having two bodies is normal for me. Once I decided I liked the dp2m never really thought twice about getting the dp1m.

Currently the dp Merrill's are used maybe 40-50 percent of the time. My omd handles my long tele work w/ a 90f2.8 and 135f4.. The Fuji xp1/xe1 handles the rest.

Ps - if sigma ever implemented the Ricoh "snap focus" feature, it would make the camera more usable in more fluid situations.
Pss.. Forgot a pairing - dp2m and dp1m of course.

anyone use the sigma flashes?

yep...i do...i use the smaller one which i kept from my dp1...years ago...i was so sure i´d have a nother dp that i kept it.

It´s the EF-140DG, it´s great, it has ttl capability which works fine, it never burns my pics and it´s small.

How about a DP4 camera with 24-70mm zoom lens.
Of course, the performance has to be same as the others.

ISO-wise, I couldn't care less even if they cap it at 200 (for the best results).

It might happen. Back about aybe 2 months ago, one of the Japanese rumor mills was showing a dp4m or dpzm on the road map for q4 announcement. The dpzm could be a zoom for all we know. I am hoping it will be a dp4m which will be a 21 fov.

depending on how many batteries you're willing to carry! 😀
imagine backpacking in the cold with sigmas ... getting a roll of film of exposures would be considered lucky!

I took 10 batteries with the DP1M and DP3M on a six-day trip with temps below zero. Took something like 400+ frames and had fresh batteries to spare.

I currently have 8 batteries and have them numbered so that they all get used evenly. I have been told that lithium ion batteries age (not talking the current charge in it, but the life expectancy in years) even w/o use. I cannot remember where I read this. According to what i have read, for example.. Lets say u bought 4 LF these batteries at the same time, u put two away in a drawer and take them out when the other two are of no use to u, expecting that the two u put in the drawer all this time will last the same amount of time the first two did. But according to what I read, they will still work, but not as long as u expected.

An experience of my own..

I bought brand new replacement batteries for a Motorola Razor cell phone for my wife 2 years ago (well after Motorola and verizon stopped carrying it on their website) from Amazon.. That battery barely lasted less then 8 months. My wife's original razor batteries lasted 1.5 years, the replacement (from Verizon website) lasted 2 years.. From what I ave heard from others my wife experience w/ battery life on her razor is far better then others, but I believe that is because she was not using it a lot and thus was on standby a lot.

I am so enamored by the Sigma Merrill cameras that I now have three: DP1m, DP2m, and SD1m. The image quality is so good that I have sold my large format and three medium format film cameras (plus lenses) to pay for all of this. I am going to use the DP1m and DP2m for the wide and standard views with the SD1m reserved for telephoto (using the 50-150mm f/2.8).
I suspect I will be using these Sigmas for just about everything except in low light situations. For those, I will be using the Fuji XP1.
I am learning as I go with the foveon sensor and it is great fun.
I have also learned that it is wide to follow Keith's lead!

Wow.. So cool... Sd1m 😀

How do u like it so far? Are the SA mount lenses as good?

I still use an omd for tele work.

I would love to c some images from sd1m. Please feel free to post soe in the foveon thread.

Hi, i´m longing for a 21mm fov dpm...

but if a zoom option was put into it i would be happy with a fov of just 35-50...or 28-40...to keep it small, make a distortion free lens and still f2.8...

OK Gary, here you go. A photo taken this evening behind our backyard in Gainesville, Florida. Note the resident peacock in the foreground. I had to reduce the size of the photo in half to upload in flickr. I used the Sigma 18-250mm lens. I will soon have a better telephoto lens.
Naturally, a tripod was essential for this shot taken at ISO 100, 1/8 sec, f/9.

Hi, i´m longing for a 21mm fov dpm...

something wider than 28...
and sharp throughout the corners

I wonder what the design parameters would look like?

Fuji did it with their fabulous 14/2.8 .

If the size were roughly comparable to the DP3M that would be okay with me. It would be pretty embarrassing to buy a fourth DPM model, but I wouldn't pass up the chance! I'd gladly sell the DP1M and take the loss to replace it with a wider angle of view.
