I bought Giulio's lens when he put it up for sale.
Not bad at all, I could certainly be happy with this as my daylight-50mm
Some pics of Easter activities in the country.
Excellent work.

50mm Elmar-M on Leica M9
![]()
Elmar-M 50 is definitely one of my all-time favorites.
I like it so much it's currently on M5. The forbidden love!
(I've put a cut-down film canister around the barrel to avoid accidental collapsing/collision)

I believe the early 21SA needed to be modified to fit the M5, perhaps comparing one with the collapsed lens could also give an indication. If memory serves the 21SA mod is localised and it does not rotate
Leitz offered this modification, which involved altering a bayonet lug to prevent the metering stalk from being activated. However the collapsible Summicron required no alteration: it simply doesn't extend quite far enough into the camera to touch the stalk. It may be the only lens for which this is true; or perhaps, as I suspect, the Elmar-M might be safe on the M5 as well.
The 21 SA does not rotate. This enables it to use the rectangular hood, which would not be feasible otherwise.
is it established that the Elmar-M must not be collapsed into the M5? I'm asking because although it has been said that no lens can be collapsed into the M5, I believe, after doing careful measurements, the collapsible Summicron can be. It is because the barrel has a rather short range of motion before it is arrested by the mount. I've not had the opportunity to measure the Elmar-M for this. Has anyone checked this out? It will help me decide whether to get one.
